I am currently in the resto-mod of my 71 SS454. I currently have my sites set on a Shafiroff 540cid BBC. I really don't want to twist the frame out from under my car. At what point does the frame start to bend and twist? I know there might not be a "at 890 hp it wont, but at 920 it will" answer, but will 695hp twist of the frame? I don't plan on too many 3500rpm clutch dumps on slicks, but I am sure a few will find there way in there? Any insight is appreciated.

I dont think its so much .. how mucn power the engine makes as it is how much power gets planted to the ground.
I can say this much, My 64 has an El Camino Chassis ( full box mid )and an 8 pt. cage connected into the frame and it still twisted enough to crack the paint on both B Pillars on 2 differant paint jobs. And that was with little SB combo's

I'd be curious to know too since I have a Shafiroff 540 (shortblock).

The paint on my A pillar is cracked, but my car used to be a racer from a previous owner. Don't know how much power he had in it, but it also cracked my frame  . That's why I am asking. I think he had a high CR bracket racer (I know it pulled wheel stands and all), but don't know if it had more power than the 540. Maybe thats just what happens when you want to go fast.
On a side note, how do you like the Shafiroff products? Good customer service? They are close to me, and there decently priced, so I would like to hear anything good or bad.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks,
Chris Good question Chris. I've been asked before. My experiences with Shafiroff have been excellent thus far. They have proven honest, friendly and knowledgeable from the get go. I spoke with Nic there. I don't know if he is still there but he really knew his stuff. He even talked me out of an option (that would have put more money in their pockets) I thought I might need. I got the shortblock from them and then added AFR heads (which I got from them too, a little later). Other vendors I've spoken with have said good things too. I've run the motor on my test stand and it sounded great. :D I would highly recommend them. They will custom make what you want probably if you don't want one of their "packages." Of course the free shipping on the shortblock was an advantage to me over here on the left coast. If you have any more questions, PM me.
