OK, on the left starting from the bottom of the picture, 69-71.

The picture on the right is the rare and elusive 1972.

I've noticed that some are reprocuced and some appear to be stamped while others just are painted or some kind of decals. Are they all reproduced or just certain plates?

They're not all reproduced, and if they are, they're easily detectable from the originals.

On the originals, look for the thicker stamped steel, typically with a Green Coating on the back, Smaller mounting holes, and the upper and lower text other than the USA-1, to be silkscreened on the flat, as apposed to being embossed.

The USA-1 and Gold outline trim is all that is embossed on the originals.

Does anyone reproduce the '69 plate "Putting You first Keeps Us First"?

I'd really hate to break up the 69-72 Set. They'll hit $250 each on E-bay if mint.

But this set was given to me by a friend, and that would be kind of tacky on my part.

Use this search.....

http://search.ebay.com/usa1-usa-1-u-s-a-1-plate-lic_W0QQcatrefZC6QQfposZ46544QQfromZR9QQfromZR9QQf sooZ2QQfsopZ2QQfstypeZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQmppfqyZQ2 8usa1Q2cusaQ201Q2cQ20uQ20sQ20aQ201Q29Q20Q28plateQ2 aQ2clicQ2aQ29QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZQ2d1QQsatitleZQ28u sa1Q2cusaQ201Q2cQ20uQ20sQ20aQ201Q29Q20Q28plateQ2aQ 2clicQ2aQ29QQsspagenameZSTRKQ3aMEFSRCHQ3aSRCH

They aren't exactly the same as the originals, but they're a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. ;)

Here are a few I got at an Estate sale:

^ this is the REAL GM one, with the rounded embossing and the translucent red & blue colors, not the cheap repop style (no numbers on it either)

plus some older truck ones:

Jim or anyone: Can you tell me the difference between the plate you describe above as the REAL GM ONE and the plate that has a small square red, white and blue between the U and the S. Such as

USA+1 or U+S+A+1

Instead of the plus sign it would be a square red, white and blue. Is one older than the other? Is one only produced to a certain year? I'm talking about the originals not the repos.

Year One has the '72 plate for less than $10. (repo)

Yeah, John "stole" them from the guy (he didn't know what they were worth!). ;)
