I just got done changing heads on my dads 350. It had some 441's and all of the exhaust valves were just kicking the crap out of there seats. Some of them literally sunk an 1/8" into the head! All this within maybe 5,000 miles. So do all old heads have to have hardened seats installed? Is it just the exhaust?

Just the exhaust. I've seen heads with sunken exhaust valves. Most people don't believe it but it happens.

I had two exhaust gaskets brech they sunk in so much. I had larger valves added into the head, but cheaped out on the seats per someone elses advice. Cause my motor to hydrolock and break a lot of graemlins/angry.gif
