: the Most desirable Beaumont or Acadian?
69396ss Jun 15th, 08, 6:47 PM I've enjoyed reading up on the Beaumonts and Acadians and am drawn to the 68SD's.
I was curious though, what is the Holy Grail of the make? I realize this is an opinion based question, but obviously the Chevelles ultimate would likely be voted as the 1970 LS6.
What is the rarest or most desirable in the Acadian/Beamont line-up?
Photos Mandatory :D
I would have to say any '66 - '68 Sport Deluxe convertible, especially with 396 power. They are cool, plus they are very rare (production typically in the 65 ~ 70 unit range!).
A '69 SD396 (also very rare; I've heard of 2 or 3).
A '65 L79-powered Beaumont (the only year offered; < 2 dozen were made!)
A '65 or '66 with K66 Transistor Ignition.
Any big block Sport Deluxe.
A '69 with a factory AM/FM Stereo, or a 68/69 with 8-track.
Anything with power windows (hey, they're rare and neat!)
A 68/69 with a/c (rare) or tilt wheel (rare)
A 67 with factory 4-piston disk brakes.
I'm getting carried away...
The photos below I took at a few Northern Chevelle Gatherings. The 67 & 68 belong to Bill Wertheim; the white 65 belongs to Susie & Joe Lizon. It is ironic that all these cars are owned by U.S. citizens.
69396ss Jun 15th, 08, 9:35 PM That 68 Vert is pretty nifty.
The Cortez Silver 69 behind it looks dead on to my old car. I think a guy in Michigan bought mine.
ak 67SD Jun 16th, 08, 3:01 PM I agree with Cams assessment of the most desirable... unfortunately no COPO 427 beaumonts! and no 396/375hp cars either...
Another rare and desirable would be the 736x vin, SD 396 ragtop... perhaps only 4 produced, there is at least 1 around, and its for sale...

CDN SS Jun 16th, 08, 4:30 PM Dont forget the "Dealer Conroy " Beaumonts called the "cheetah " they had some dealer L78 engines ...IMO the 67 SD was the most unique and clean looking BB Beau
animal69 Jun 16th, 08, 5:44 PM I would say any one that found it's way into my garage!
Keith Tedford Jun 16th, 08, 6:33 PM I had a '66 SD 396. Green, white bucket seat interior with headrests, tach and gauge dash, M20, 3.73 posi. The original owner had installed the L78 cam giving the car lots of power. I would dearly love to have that one back again.
floyd66 Jun 16th, 08, 9:44 PM In my opinion the 67 SD is the sexiest, because of those three little shark gills on the quarter panel. Oh, how I wish 66 Chevelles came with them.
I love the 66 Canso also, at the Langley cruise in a guy showed up with a L79 black with red interior. If it wasn't original he sure did a nice job replicating it.
ak 67SD Jun 18th, 08, 9:28 PM Now i feel just plain embarrassed! ...of course the infamous Cheetah! i'd take a gold/gold '67 sd cheetah please! now if we could only see some pics of one!

Same here, I love the '67 in a SD convertible. There was one for sale in Seattle last week on Craigslist without drivetrain for 5,000. I tried every way I could think of to get it home but it did'nt work out.
jfkheat Jun 18th, 08, 11:27 PM My 68 SD has a some rare options, tilt wheel, 4 piston disk brakes and an under dash 8 track player. The 1969 SD396 is the rarest of the factory 396 cars. If I remember correctly, there were about 45 made. No 1969 SD convertibles were built. There were 66 1968 SD396 convertibles built and 702 hardtops. There were 70 1967 SD convertibles built and 451 hardtops. During the first half on the 1967 production run the 396 was an option on the SDs. I don't think there were any numbers on how many 1967s were 396 cars. I'm not sure of the production numbers for 1966 SDs. There were way less than 2000 big block Beaumonts built. I believe this info is correct. Someone please correct me if it is not.
James
BTW, From what I have heard, only about 8 or 9 1968 SD convertibles and 7 or 8 1967 SD convertibles have been accounted for.
ak 67SD Jun 19th, 08, 1:35 AM Hi James, that white small block 67 SD with the 736 vin is most likely a 1 0f 1, or at least the only 736 SD convert in existence today... there are not too many of the 738s around either... i dont think your numbers are too car off...
that red convertible in cams post is a slice of heaven on earth, that car is absolutely gorgeous!... only thing i can see 'off' is that it has the stripe package and the 1/4 panel script... but i think it looks good like that anyway!

66sc Jun 19th, 08, 3:23 AM I'd be pretty shocked and might fall in love just seeing one in person. Assuming it was attractive... Being a GM fan, that could happen easily.
Mikeys69 Jun 19th, 08, 11:03 AM So thats what the hell it is.
When I got my 69 Chevelle. In the truck was a junk looking consul (plastic shorty) with a SD badge on it. lol
blumont Jun 20th, 08, 9:14 AM Most desirable? Hmmm
Hopefully mine if I ever try and sell it :D
senior Jun 23rd, 08, 5:13 PM :(:(
And to think back in the mid 70s I used a dark blue w/black vynal top 2nd owner (me) a 1967SD with the 396-325hp, 4sp, 3.55s with buckets as a winter car to my vette
What I wouldn't give to have that old girl back, it was the most fun car I ever owned.
prefectca Jun 23rd, 08, 9:25 PM I had two 66 beaumonts years ago(not at the same time). One was a two door coupe with a 283/PG and the other was a wagon with the same driveline. I wish I had either one today.
