I posted this in cooling also, but there is usually more traffic here.

Over in electrical, I keep reading about this fan off the taurus. I am wondering if it will keep my beast cool.
Here is what I have at the moment:
BBC,177 blown, 76 truck radiator 4 core, 15" nylon flexlite fan with no shroud. It is about 73 degrees here at the moment. Sitting at a long city lite the motor goes upto almost 180, going down the road it stays around 165-170.

If you are familar with this fan, it has a shroud on it. That would be better already, if the fan pulls as much air as the flexlite without the shroud.
So what do you all think?

I was using one as a "pusher" without the shroud in front of my AC condenser. It worked great!

I am currently in the process of upgrading my AC system with a new Seltec compressor and a parallel flow condensor. I will be using a pair of the late model Taurus fans in front of the condensor similar to the previous installation and wiring them to turn on with the AC. I didn't have any cooling problem at all going down the road but in heavey/stalled traffic things could get scary hot. With the auxillary fan there was no problem idling in stalled traffic at all.

I did not try using the fan as a stand alone device so I can't say if they will cool as good as an engine driven fan or not. It does seem to make for very good air flow however.

I am using the taurus fan. I built my own shroud for it. I haven't got any real driving time on it yet in hot weather. I know it pulls a heck of a lot of air. It is a 2 speed fan. Draws around 40 amps on high. This came from am 88 Taurus wagon with air.

I hate to send you to a "brand x" forum, but if you go to www.corral.net (http://www.corral.net) and search the forums for "taurus fan" or "Mark VIII fan", you will find a lot of info. These fans are very popular with the 87-93 Mustang crowd. smile.gif

Patrick,
Personally, I dont see what you are worried about. Those are just about perfect temperatures. Actually, I would like to see it closer to 180 all the time. Sounds like your present cooling system is working fine.

The temps are good now, but it was only 73 outside. What I am concerned with is when the temps are in the 90's with the air on sitting at that lite, or slow moving traffic.
