I am upgrading my 69 307 to power steering using the Cherokee conversion. I have purchased a pump and 2 groove pulley.
When i fit the pulley fully on the pump and then install the pump, the grooves do not line up. I can pull the pulley back off a bit and get the alignment closer but not enough before the nut will not go on.

The pump has no adjustment except for the belt, so the only way i can see to get it aligned is by cutting more material off the back of the pulley to get it to seat closer to the pump, but this does not seem right.

Any idea's.

Thanks

Mike

This is probably not the best answer...

When I had alignment issues with my BBC and the PS pump I got a new bracket from Alan Grove Components and no more alignment problems. In my case I figured out that the crank pulley was a SBC pulley, so it was not correct for a BBC. So no telling what brackets I had either. It makes a big differerence to make sure that all of your pulleys and brackets are correct for the specified setup.

FWIW the Alan Grove mid-mount bracket would be the one for a Chevelle to avoid conflicts with the steering gearbox. These brackets are highly shim-able too.
