Hey guys. I just bought a 1969 Malibu Chevelle from a buddy of mine and just started working on it. I know almost nothing about cars but I'm learning the hard way (the only way?). The car doesn't start yet but I'm looking forward to when it does. I can't wait to get some good advice from you guys. I've only worked on my Chevelle for a little while but it's easy to see how people get into it. Here's a link to pictures of my Chevelle. I tried to take pictures of all the rust and damage to get some advice on what I should do.

Also, the previous owner (my buddy) had his friend put in a new HEI dis. cap. Rather than getting a new harness he just rigged it from something else. I can't seem to figure out what everything goes to. Do you think I should just buy all new wiring or is that too complicated. Thanks!

Welcome to the team. A good place to start is to buy some manuals and a wire diagram of your car. Ground up has a 3 manual kit you can buy. If you plan on working on this car then make the investment on the manuals. I have at least 4 that I use for my restoration and use this site to search for my question or ask. Alot of great people on here who freely give out good advise. I have attached a few links to the reference manuals you might want. Good luck on your project.

Thanks Ray. I ordered the manual set. I have a Haynes manual with wiring diagrams in it but the diagrams don't seem to match up to the key at the beginning. I'm also having to deal with a lot of shoddy jury rig wiring that definitely isn't in the manual.

Welcome John.
Looks like you've got some work to do!! As for the wiring, If you have "jury rigging" and "splicing" on 40yr old wiring, Replace it!!!
