Some of you may remember the post awhile back http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/4/22274.html?#000000
Well, I won our first meeting, but he did what every good Hotrodder does when they get beat, UPGRADE. He has since dropped to a best of 7.94 @ 85mph and a 60ft time of 1.70. My bests are in my sig. I haven't been back to the track since our first meeting because my TH350 was sloppy. I now have a built Turbo 400 in place of my tired TH350. Now to my 2 questions:

1) What should I expect with the tranny swap? I know the 400 uses more HP, but the TH350 was slipping and not shifting good. The 400 shifts great.

2) The weather is considerably colder now (going to be in the high 40's maybe 50's as opposed to in the 90's when we last raced) and probably less humid. How is this going to affect my carb jetting? I'm running 80's in the front and 82's in the rear of my 750DP.

TIA and like I did last time, I'll post the video after Friday night. graemlins/beers.gif

I think you need to jet it down,,,you're running more jet than me with my hp950...mine is 78/80 and I run a little quicker than you :D

Didnt think about that, I do have power valves.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to "proper jetting," I just don't have enough experience. I'm working on that. That's why I was asking about the colder temps, because I "thought" that my jetting (recommended to me by more experienced locals) sounded too rich. However, upon inspection of my plugs, none looked black or damp...?

Robert, isn't a HP950 just an expensive 750? BTW, I do have PV's in mine. What are you 1/8th mile incrementals? Give me a little "tuning" time and I'll hopefully be a good race for ya! graemlins/beers.gif

The HP950 wetflows 830 cfm. My best of 7 passes last weekend was 1.678/4.83/7.51 @ 90.54 mph/ 11.91@111.66 mph, worst was 1.70/4.89/7.61 @ 89.67 mph/12.04@111.00 mph,,,its all in the 60ft. times.

sounds like it. I think I'll go to your page again and see if I can get some details about your suspension, converter, and weight.... smile.gif

SSM lift bars, METCO adjustable uppers, stock springs front and back, air bags in rear springs,12 psi in right, 0 in left, front swaybar installed, cheap summit adjustables in front. Nothing special,3920 with me in it,ATI 10"converter, leaves level, and video of both front tires leaving the ground in a couple passes last weekend :D almost forgot, this was on BFG drag radials too.

cool! I haven't installed my SSM's yet, but I don't have any wheel hop so I'm not sure I need them...? I've got totally original stock suspension up front (small block springs) Edelbrock upper adjustables, Moog stock replacement springs, and Monroe Sensatrac shocks on the rear. I get very good weight transfer on launch. It feels like it's at the end of the shock travel. I think I'd get some air if I wasn't running those HUGE 255/60 radials on 15x8's up front... I'm obviously not making as much power as you because I weigh 3700.lbs (with me in it) but I think I'm making some decent power because it holds the front end up high until I let off the accelerator after the stripe. graemlins/thumbsup.gif thanks for the help Robert.

Hi Purs, You would definately benefit trom some light weight wheels and tires on the front end of the car. You should easily be able to cut the front end weight by 30 pounds or more. This results in much better weight transfer and could give you another tenth or more.

That's what I figured. I've been looking for a good used set for awhile....(aka cheap) :D
