: 67 PS Pump leaking...

Hi.

Fired up the BB for the first time and everything looks good except the PS pump is leaking from the pressure port on the back of the pump. After inspection, the hose fitting looks ok and the pump side looks ok "visually". Why is it leaking?? it's a pretty decent leak too, not just a "drip".

Also, it looks like the pulley or the shaft has a little wobble to it. I checked the pulley and it's on tight.

I got the pump on Ebay from what seemed like a reputable place. I'll have to check my records to get that info again.

Any thoughts on a repair?? Or can you tell me where you got your pump in case I need a new one.

Thanks,
Jim

Napa looks cheap enough for pumps and they also have seal kits

Be sure you have the right type of hose fitting for the pump fitting. Sounds like a no brainer but it wouldn't be unheard of to be using the old (67) style hose and to have a newer style outlet fitting. The thread should be metric on the newer fittings, but might go with a little persuasion!

John,

It threads by hand without issue but you could still have a valid point. I don't see any other explainations

Does the female fitting on the pump unscrew? It has a 1" hex but I though that was just used for tightening the hose fitting.

Does anyone know the thread sizes for the pressure fittings?

The female fitting unscrews and is interchangeable with the old ones. Both have SAE male threads on the outside. Older ones are SAE inside too. Newer ones are metric inside and use the O-ring type fittings. It is an easy way around the difference when changing to a GC PS box. Change that fitting and go to Auto Zone and pick up a new style hose. No adapter needed!
A longshot in terms of solving your problem, but we all have been fooled by stranger things...

Thanks John.

Man, I'm not sure if I have the new fitting and the old hose or the new hose and the old fitting or if they're both new or both old.

I don't see o-rings on anything but the inside of the female fitting on the pump dosen't look exactly like the typical 45 deg. fitting. I need a comparrison to be sure.
