: Found Another Buildsheet...
7TSS396 Jun 13th, 08, 6:12 PM I had the seats from my 70SS recovered this week. The guy who did them (M&M in Crestwood, Il) also has a 71SS convertible and did a very nice job. Anyway, when I pulled up to pick up the seats he had a huge grin on his face and handed me a buildsheet...for a 70 chevelle with a 350 built 12-12. Yikes! He said he pulled it from the drivers side.
With all of the fake stuff out there, I started to get nervous that the buildsheet that I already with all of the SS options had may be garbage. When I got home I compared the vin on my car (15775X) to the vin on the new buildsheet (157763). Whew!
I've heard stories about the wrong buildsheets accidentially getting stuck in the wrong car. Pretty cool though. I have my original buildsheet and the buildsheet of the car that was 7 cars behind mine in Van Nuys. Pretty nicely optioned car too.
Useless story but I haven't posted in a while.
tar6569 Jun 13th, 08, 10:40 PM That is interesting. Sometimes you see the build sheet from another car stuck in one you own but usually it is from a car built before it (earlier vin), not a later one. Can you post a picture of the sheet. I'll add the car to the orphan chevelle vin list.

DaleM Jun 13th, 08, 11:53 PM One gentleman here sent me copies of 3 build sheets found in one car and none belonged to that car. Really neat thing was they're all in pristine condition and were sequential numbers to boot; a 13669 sedan followed by a 13680 sedan pickup and then a 13337 Chevelle Standard.
Sounds like the assembly line just got the seats switched. I'd also like to add the sheet for my data base if you would. :D
RixLS6 Jun 14th, 08, 7:03 AM Dale,
I'm the guy who sent you those 3 sequential buildsheets from 3 different cars. I have another set of sequential buildsheets, but this time it's 4 in a row!!!:eek:and one of them is, what I think, a Buick built on the Leeds assembly line.
I'll scan the 4 and post them here unless you think someone will use the info to further make fake sheets. I for sure won't show the last one in the sequence, as it's for my LS6.:secret:
Lou Merrell Jun 14th, 08, 8:37 AM I'll add the car to the orphan chevelle vin list.
Could you elaborate on this?
Is there an orphan Chevelle vin list?

Is there an orphan Chevelle vin list?
Sure. It is a list of vin#'s from "Loose" engine blocks, muncies, invoices, build sheets, etc. The list has really grown. There is a mailing list I send the updates to each month. I can send you the list if you like. Maybe your car is on there.

The cars did not go down the line in VIN sequence, they were intermingled. So the VIN is no indication of exact build order. In other words 136370R123456 did not necessarily follow 13637R0123455. They might have been in sight of one another on the line but rarely back to back. It all depended on the scheduling for that day and how many staging lines were in the body bank with body waiting for certain conditions to be met for release. Keep in mind the lines were not all Chevy, there were other models and makes in the mix. Some plants ran more that one assembly line.
