: XE274 idle quality?

Anyone running this cam behind a 350? If so what does it idle like? I'm thinking of "down-grading" my current cam to this one in an attempt to make my car more sleeperish (while hopefully still being able to crack off low 12's on motor ;) ). So, how noticable is this puppy?

Thanks,
Chris

comp xe274 idles like a stock engine with a miss. I'm dissapointed with idle, wanted more lope, however it runs like he!!. Best low/midrange I've ever run, just doesn't "sound" fast enough. LOL

I like the sound of xe274h.
i had it in my 327, ported #291, performer, performer 600, 10.5cr, shorty headers, 2.25" + flowmaster 40 delta series mufflers at the back.

the sound was quite a loud and loped a little.
with 3.36 gears and 235 tires i could still burn rubber with gas at 2nd gear (4-speed munch).. really good mid range and pulls good to 6000.

now i am building 388 so lets see how it sounds in that.

I've got that cam in a 454 sounds tame. But has mid range pull from he!! I think behind a manuel trans it would lope ok.

run that cam in my SB408ci
love the sound and midrange power. I like the cam.

My next cam will which is hopefully on it's way is an UD solid. Like Tracy mentioned, "good sound, more power."

Have that cam in my 454,Sounds about the same as the LS6 solid I replaced. But makes more power.Idles real nice at 950 RPM.Likes the gas though. Feed it accordingly.

I got that cam in 454 and I like the idle and it is a power house. Although it makes a little noise, not like a solid but does have a slight tick with crane gold rockers. The 294 in a 454 with vacuum brakes, mine has about 10 and that is it. Mark

a buddy of mine had an xe274 in a 355 flat tops and 64cc Sportsman II's and it was fairly choppy. definately noticable, IMO. it ran like a raped ape too. he had 3.73 gears and a 3000 stall and ran high 7's 1/8mi in 69 Camaro street car.
i've got the xe284 in my 406 and it seems down right rough below 1000rpms. only has around 6" of vacuum @800rpms.

My current cam idles very rowdy ...theres no fooling anyone into thinking my cars slow. I've seen a quite a few guys with vortecs and the XE274 running deep into the 12's on motor in 3200-3400lb cars. I'm also considering the Xtreme Solid 274 but it requires a 1.44" dual spring ...I'd hate to have to pop off my heads again for more machining, but ..maybe.

Thanks,
Chris

I had it in a 400. I liked the sound myself. A friend decribed it as "angry", and "like it wanted to jump out of there and kill something". It ran fairly hard too. I took it to the local chassis dyno, and got on right behind a 69 Camaro with a 396 and a Comp 302H in it; my 400 out-torqued the 396, by about 40 ft-lbs. It was the talk of the speed shop for weeks. They posted the graphs on the wall.

Anyway, it didn't sound really radical or anything, but it definitely wasn't quite a sleeper either.

Chris [/QB]</font>[/QUOTE]I ran the XE284 in a 383, 11:1,a dn ran good, valve train is a tad noisy, then swapped to the 294s solid...way more low end, and idles about the same...the XS solid lines look good, as well as the 282s.
