i have a set of big block heads cast# 063 off a 69 chevelle and i want to know how good do they flow their going to sit on a 402 with trw .30 over forged pistons if it matters any

I'll look around for some flowbench numbers.
I can tell you that they work plenty good for 95% of the 396s/402s out there.
Listed chamber volume is 100.9/101cc so if you bought the TRW 11:1 pistons for 106cc heads....you'll have a lot more compression on your hands. I hope you got the short dome pistons

They're basically the same head as 290's and 215's. EdHead ran low 10's with a solid roller 468 and worked over 215's.

The 063's flow decent stock but with the larger valves and prof port job they can really be woken up to run some good HP #'s .

I have some 063's that will be going on my planned street 489 BBC. They will get a thorough
port job with 2.19/1.82 valves. These heads will easily handle my power goals which are
500HP and 550TQ.

The short side radius needs a little work but with a little bowl work and they work very well. Ask "foureightynine" how his stroker motor runs with a set of early closed chamber ovals and he'll give you the good-to-go shake.

the piston cast #s are L2328 030 and im planing to install new s.steel valves 2.25 in 1.88 ex
but im not sure about any port & polish work is their a big diffrence

If it isn't a casting cut-through problem, I'd install 2.25"/1.94" valves and go.

i already have the 1.88s

A good quality port/polish job will get you a fair amount of free hp with the 063's,just how much additional hp depends on the cam/intake/carb/exhaust etc.

If your running headers with free flowing exhaust and can afford a port job i would go for it along with some of the larger manley race flow swirl polished undercut valves to take advantage of the port jobs additional flow capabilities.

But i would play it safe with the 1.88 insted of the 1.94 valves only because i have read more then once here in t/chevelle over the past few yrs where once in a while they hit the cooling jacket when cutting for the larger 1.88 valves so why push it with the even larger 1.94's ,just my 2 cent's on that .

im thinking about running the comp cam mother thumper cam. i heard it on the web page and its just the sound im looking for. dont have the specs in hand at the moment. the valves are ss swirl polish manley severe duty valves. and comp cams triple valve springs good for .640 lift

Tony, look up the specs for that cam on comp site and post them here for all to see.

BTW,if you decide to go with a flat tappet cam of some sort let me know so i can sned you some info to ensure your running the correct oil with proper zddp lvl so it should live a hopefully normal life.

thanks...Scott

hyd. lifter, 2400+ stall, hyd. flat tappet cam family, rpm range 2000 to 5900, valve timing 0.006, lobe center angle :107, intake centerline : 102, valve lash intake hyd. duration int.287/ex. 304, duration @0.050 int. 235 / ex. 249, valve lift int.0.51 / ex.0.495, lobe lift int. 0.3 / ex. 0.291, valve timing int. 40 btdc 67 abdc , ext. 80 bbdc 45 atdc . sorry this is all i can come up with hope it helps. im running a wieand single plane team g intake air gap type (gasket matched), 750 edelbrock carb (might change) , 3 in mandrel bent pypes kit w/ x-pipe leading to flowmaster super 44s , havent decided on what headers yet what do you think ? by the way how much hp would you think it will put out with this combo ?

I have a pair of 063's on my 461 that where ported by Ed's guy.
They have 2.19/1.88 valves and flow about as good as the Edelbrock BBC head out of the box.

Imho, a 287 cam would really like about 10.75 to 1 CR. to run like it's supposed to.

Maybe BB cubes will allow it to be used at a lower CR??
