I remember team member Rainer finding one a while back also. They are rare. I think he says only 16 were made. I did find the link for it.

There's no way to document 1-of-anything when it comes to series/model and engine and/or transmission combinations on U.S built Chevelles. Note the thread does say, "By Dan Carr's estimates...". All of Dan's series/model/engine/transmission/cowl hoods/etc. estimates on his great poster are based on statistical probabilities, not facts. It's a great piece of work but too many people take the numbers as facts. :noway:

GM's final year reports were not broken down by option combinations, only individual options sold. For the LS3, it's only known that 9,883 were optioned in 1970 but they were available in any 132xx, 134xx, 136xx, and 13857 (Monte Carlo). Canada kept records of those built or sold in Canada so they do have those figures.

FWIW, the 134xx series was a 300 Deluxe in Canada and a Chevelle Standard in the U.S. in 1970; 1969 was the last year the U.S. used the 300 Deluxe nameplate.

Either way, a 13437 LS3 sport coupe is a relatively rare item.

I don't get on here much but production figures are sort of a hobby of mine so I'ma jump in this one :)

Best as I can tell, only 1,882 LS-3s were built in '70 US production (along with 7,456 LS3 Monte Carlos which Chev inexplicably counted as "Chevelles" for several years in the early 70's), out of some 442,000 cars. Installation rate of less than one-half percent.

Don't have the Canadian figures but yeah, she's rare. Got any pics, and is it still for sale?

The Mote Carlo was part of the Chevelle model series 13000, just like the El Camino was. Thats why its counted as a Chevelle, it was a variation of the Chevelle model. It was assembled in the same plants, used the same assembly manual and shared many of the same components, the SS style dash for instance.

This car is actually Canadian-built, and I believe the guy selling it ordered the GM of Canada docs, which do break down the production stats. So his 1 of whatever claim may be true.

Here's a pic of the car. I think it may need a quarter... ;)

Ones I have for 66's and 67's say "NUMBER PRODUCED FOR SALE IN CANADA (SAME MODEL NUMBER ONLY)" then they list a quantity for the particular model number. On two 67 examples, both 13617 Malibu sport coupes, each have the quantity of model numbers produced (5,803); one has a 283 and one a 396 but no mention of the quantity of a particular engine is listed.

I've only seen a couple docs from GM of Canada on 70 models and they were both for export to the U.S. Both are SS optioned; one says "NUMBER PRODUCED FOR U.S. SALE IN CANADA (SAME MODEL NO. ONLY)" and one says "NUMBER EXPORTED FOR SALE IN U.S. (SAME MODEL NO.ONLY)" then gives a number for the 13637 Malibu (25,938) in both cases, then in parentheses the number built with Z15 option (looks like 3,306 but it's fuzzy) in both cases. Reports are 2 years apart so the verbiage appears to change but the numbers remain constant. I haven't seen one so far that shows the number produced for sale in Canada so I don't know what those numbers would be.

So, my question is on a non-SS Chevelle, does it list the total number of 13437 cars built and then separately show the number of the engine option for that model such as, "NUMBER EXPORTED, or PRODUCED xxxxxx (SAME MODEL NO. ONLY) n,nnn (16 with LS3)". I guess if I could see the doc stating 16 LS3 engines sold in 13437 series/model it'd make more sense.

Dale - Yes, you're right - there is only a breakdown for model number. I just went back through this thread, and it looks like the "1 of ..." claim was not in the guy's ad, but just something that Ray (Shadowgray396) was interpreting from my website.

That would be my website with the contrived name ;)

Ah, yes but an excellent name devised with cleverness and ingenuity, not a plan of evil content. :D
