Here's a pretty broad question but i need some guidance. I am really sticking into the car this year and i want to get her ready to go for the summer. She's getting paint and has rims and tires. So she's done looks wise. This is where i get lost I want her to run low 14's high 13's for the summer. But i don't want her to lose streetability (like cut her up for weight reduction) and i want to use a 350 in it.
This is what i have
-Chevelle 2 spd 250 strait six 4 door
-350 short block

I don't want to go with nitrous and i would like the combo to be relativly non expensive

Thanks for any help

Bore the 350 .030 over, vortec heads, hydraulic cam in the .480 lift range(Lunati Bracket Master II cam),headers, edelbrock rpm intake,650 holley dp,and you should be running 13's easy,,,,if you add a turbo 350 too. My sons 81 chev p/u runs mid 13's all day long with 4.11 gears and zero traction(2.0x 60 ft. times).

I think that cam might be a little extreme for the street don't you? my comp 270 has a little trouble with vacuum for the power brakes at about 750-800rpm in gear.
I built my 350 with .030 10:1 pistons (balanced and blueprinted by me)
wp 67cc iron 2.02/1.60 torquers
edlebrock dual plane manifold, demon 625 carb
freshened up distributer, and flowtech headers all bolted to a th350 with a shift kit.
the whole enchilada cost me about $2600 and a th350 core
Zac
BTW I haven't run it at the track yet since I'm right in the middle of the break in period but I'm confident that I can do 13s. tongue.gif

i ran a 280 duration, 480 lift in my chevelle in highschool... thought it had pretty decent street manors... but i also had a 3500 stall and 410 gears.... my combo then was a 350 30 over 280 cam 480 lift, petejackson gear drive, wieand intake holley carb HEI ignition, and had 2.02 heads. was a great street car. drove it to highschool, work, and college and back for awhile. i would say it would be a good combo to get ya in the high 13.s

I don't see why the Comp 270Magnum would have any problem at all with vacuum. My 355 had a Isky 280Megga
280 232 485 108

Just a slight low pedal but it held the breaks nicely, power steering too.

-Paul What are your intentions with this car?
Just a cruiser that may at sometime make it to the track?

Or do you eventually want,say... A car that runs 12's or even lower?

I only ask because you don't want to throw money away by buying parts that you can't use later on.

you want a cheap build heres one for cheap and it runs low 13's anytime at the track.....nothing special and i have built several of them and the guys like the cool idle and it drives, to me just fine.....and the brakes work just fine too

350 bored .030 over
11 to 1 cast dome pistons 100 bucks for a set
stock bottom end
stock unported light casting 76 cc heads
1.94 and 1.50 valves with 3 angle valve job
with felpro .040 head gasket compression is 10.2
summit cam for 80 bucks-234/244 @ .050 .510 lift on the exhaust
z28 springs
rpm intake dual plane
750 holley vac sec
stock hei
summit headers
2 1/2" exhaust with turbo mufflers
3.73 gears
3000 stall

and with a race weight of 3700 lbs give or take some........between the cars that run this combo runs in....

the 3 cars currently running these motors i built run from 13.10 to 13.50 in the 1/4 mile at 100 to 104 mph in street rim with regular street tires..........

traction is an issue for all three off them so there 60 ft times very from 2.00 to 2.15 at any given time.......

the cars are all camaro's and they are raced for fun.

dan's car is the fastest out of the three........lol .....since i did some tunning for him at the track.......our track is about 1100 ft above sea level........they all run th350 tranny's and 3.73 gears......and drive them almost everyday.....

I was talking to a guy today who said if you take a set of heads off a 305 and bore them out you can get really good street results and a nice solid quarter mile. does anyone have any experinece with this ?

My car runs consistent high 13's, with a best of 13.65 at 99mph. Very streetable, 3.42 gears, 2000 stall, 9.5 compression. Combo is

2-bolt 355 (.030 over 350) from a 76 Monte Carlo
Stock crank & rods, GM 8" balancer
TRW forged pistons (small dome)
Dart Iron Eagle 180 heads, 72cc chambers
Comp XE262 cam, lift .462/.469, duration 218/224
Comp full roller rockers 1.52 ratio
Performer RPM intake with 650 Holley DP, #4777
Small body distributor by Dave Ray with MSD6AL
200-4R tranny with 2000 stall
12-bolt with 3.42 gears and Auburn posi

This cam idles smoothly in gear at 600rpms. Car runs fine on 93 unleaded, no pinging. I drive it 75 miles each way to Atlanta Dragway, and it normally runs 13.70's - 13.80's in the summer heat, on street radials. Car weighs 3850 with driver.
