My column shift automatic has a neutral/reverse switch bolted to the bottom of the steering column. Is this correct? I thought that setup was for manual trans cars. Did my column come from a standard trans car? It is not plugged in. My reverse lights work but it will not start in neutral. Confused.

That is the correct location for the switch for autos.

Does anybody know where the connector comes from to plug into the neutral switch bolted to the base of the column?

Should be 2 purple wires. On standard shift I think there is a seprate switch up on th clutch pedal some where. On th autos it's on tha column low. You may have to slide the switch up or down it get it to start in nuteral.

Mike, I've got the schematic, but it's in a book and I have no scanner. Do you have a color fax machine? Maybe someone has one already on the computer.

Thanks to everybody. I wonder how I have reverse lights if nothing is plugged into the switch at the base of the column. Is it just a neutral switch? Is the reverse switch in the column?
