Well I found a deal I could not pass up on a front disc conversion. Got everything that goes down where the wheels are in one package. (1964 Chevelle Malibu SS 396 700R4)

Now I have to figure out what which master cylinder, proportioning valve, and how to run lines. Will probably start with the 1" bore manual disc master cylinder unless someone can talk me into the 1 1/8 " master cylinder.

I guess all disc/drum proportioning valves are the same, or do I need to be on the lookout for something special on a proportioning valve.

What I haven't completely figured out yet is this. The car has the original single master cylinder and 4-wheel drum brakes currently. That means one line from master cylinder to the frame mounted junction block. Junction block has one line to rear brakes and two lines to each front wheel. I suppose I need to route the rear brake line outlet from the proportioning valve to the line going to the rear brakes, plug that outlet on the junction block at the frame where the rear brake line attached, and route the front brake line outlet from the proportioning valve to the junction block on the frame.

Please stop me if I am forgetting something.

You will not use the junction block as the combination/proportion valve will take care of the front lines. The rear line will also attach to the combination/proportion valve

Anyone want to suggest a master cylinder or proportioning valve?

I think for manual brakes I'd stick with a 1" master cyl and you'll need one with a deep pushrod hole. (I'm not all that familiar with the chevelle brake pedal ratio though) Easiest one would be a manual disc master for a 68-76 corvette. They're like $20 for a rebuilt jobber. If you want something shinier or prettier you could look into a wilwood or maybe the nifty Speedway aluminum knock-off of the vette master (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/8905,961_Aluminum-Master-Cylinder.html)

The 1" cast iron vette unit "should" be:
CARDONE 101371
Raybestos MC36367
Dorman M36367
AC Delco 18M27 (18030269)

For a prop valve, I'd install any of the generic adjustable ones (Wilwood, Speedway, ...). If you keep the stock distribution block (does a '65 have one?) make sure the prop valve is AFTER the distr. block in the rear lines. I like the ability to tune in how much rear brakes you have. Alternatively, you could pick up one of the combo prop valve/dist block/switch assemblies and install that instead...

I put on manual disks on the front of my 64, it has the 1" bore and they work great. I bought a complete kit from mpbrakes.com

When I did the conversion on my 64 I used a master from a 68 Camaro, it was same one either power or non-power. It also matches the bolt pattern and depth of the original single pot unit. I plugged off the rear brake line from the distribution block on the frame below the master on the frame, and ran a new line to the rear, with an adjustable prop valve in it.
