I have a Spal 17 inch single fan now and does not really get the job done. Its a 70 chevelle 454 engine and at idle heats up slowly. Thinking about going with dual fans. Any suggestions on what i should go with and what type of thermostat should i run?

2 row 3 row or 4 row?? Copper or Aluminum?? Are you saying it takes a long time to warm up, or it gets hot if sitting and idling?
How hot does it get?
what thermostat are you running?
Is the fan you have now running off of a thermo switch or is it manual control?
What motor mods do you have?
A/C or no A/C?
The more info the better. If your budget is in good shape, get a hold of Don at Alumitech Reproductions. Here is their link... http://www.chevellecooling.com/
If cash is tight, then the windstar fan swap is a well tested setup here on TC. Do a search for more info on the swap. There's alot of good topics on it.

Its a copper rad, gets hot at idle while sitting, gets as hot as i will let, running off thermo switch, a/c not hooked up, no mods, i think 185 degree theormostat. Think the dual 14 inch will work?

IF you know the amp rating on ther 17 inch example 18 amp x 100 cfm this will be close to the cfm rating of the fan .. CFM is a big key to taking that heat out of the cooling system .. the twin 14 inch Spal fans will give you a combined Cfm of aprox 3440
that should do the job
