: Not enough squat in rear
Murphdog Jun 10th, 08, 3:15 PM First heres the specs. 72', 28X10.5 hoosier slicks, front and rear moroso drag springs, front and rear comp drag shocks set accordingly, rear sway bar, rear-edelbrock lower boxed arms, upper adjustable, no hop bars and frame supports. When I launch I pack the front ok but the rear barely drops and I seem to blow the tires off. If I ease into the throttle it performs well but laying into it just lites them up. My rear lower arms are pointing slightly up, so to my understanding I need to get them more parellel to give it more squat but I havent found a way to achieve that without lowering the rear end which I cant because of tire width. What should I do to get the rear to squat more and give me a better launch. Oh and the motor is a BB with about 650hp and a 5500 stall.
Thanks, Shawn
bracketchev1221 Jun 10th, 08, 3:54 PM Where are you trying this, the street or the track? They are 2 completely different things. There are a ton of cars that blow the tires off on the street and can't turn the tire on the track. What tire pressure are you running and is this after getting the tires hot. A 650 hp car is not going to dead hook on the street without a lot of effort. My car on the street is like driving on ice, but at the track it works fine.
Jerry Briggs Jun 10th, 08, 4:00 PM Shawn the no hop bars will make the rear end rise a small amount when launching.
Murphdog Jun 10th, 08, 4:27 PM I tried on the track a few times but honestly alot of this is on a huge concrete slab that has more than a few layers of rubber that has been layed down from many other burnouts. Seems like the car just stays level when I take off. I didnt realize the no hops did that though. So should I try to get the lowers paralell by building some brackets or just keep on playing with throtttle till I get it right.

This car is not going to squat with no hop bars. Also as a side bar, a buddy of mine was using no hop bars in conjunction with Metco adj. upper control arms. Control arm broke, he called Metco and they informed him the warranty was void because he was using the no hop bars. You would be well served to look into you're warranty.
Murphdog Jun 10th, 08, 6:12 PM Ok, I will defiantly look into that. Thanks again guys for all the help
Dick Miller Racing Jun 11th, 08, 8:08 PM To begin with you have several components in your suspension that are wrong for what you are trying to do. I do not plan to get into a thorough discussion here (not a good typist). If you want you can call me at tech 662-233-2301 to further discuss your problem.
Your springs are wrong to go with no-hop bars. As mentioned a car with no-hop bars should rise. However your springs are for a car that squats. If you would like to educate yourself on the physics of suspensions I have written a technical manual called "Need More Bite?". You can call me and order one.
Also, I guarantee our parts. If you ever brake one I will build another stronger and that will be the replacement part from here on out. No one builds stronger parts than I do.
Sorry I don't want to go on and sound like a sales pitch. I just wanted to offer some words of wisdom from 30+ years of building, using, manufacturing, designing straight line suspension systems.
Murphdog Jun 13th, 08, 2:00 PM I was just talking with a buddy and he has your book. Im looking over it right now. Amazing info so far. Thanks again for the help. If I have any other questions I will for sure give your tech a call. Thanks again.
