What is the proper way to put timing tape on the balancer. Do i just align the TDC mark on the tape with the mark on the balancer? Any help would be great.- Eric

I'd check to make sure that mark on your balancer is actually at TDC first... but yeah... it's so simple it's almost scary.

The easiest way (with the heads on your engine) would be to use a TDC bolt (it's a type of piston stop).

You thread it into your #1 spark plug hole a bit. Then you turn your crank clockwise until the piston hits the bolt and the crank won't go any further (don't try and force it). Then you mark that position on your balancer. Then you turn your crank counter-clockwise and mark the position it stops. The point DIRECTLY in between the 2 marks will be TDC.

Some people don't like that idea, but I've never had a problem using it that way. I think it's a 5/8 head on my SB. The longer the breaker bar, the easier it is to turn. One tip though, remove all the spark plugs! Turning the engine will be much easier without them installed....... ;)
