: a/c delete

I got another thread going in the body shop section, and since my 71 el camino is being worked on, with fenders and hood removed right now, i thought this could be a great opportunity to save some weight with an a/c delete.

i know mine is already missing the A/C condensor, but, judging from this picture, can you guys determine if this cr@p is ready to just get unbolted and covered up with one of those A/C delete panels? or does this unit also have the all-purpose fan that is also used for the heater?

thanks

the fan (for both the ac and the heater) is the circular thing on the left. if you go with the ac delete plate you will put the fan back in (i would recommend going to napa and getting a new one. they are like $35). there are 5-6 nuts to remove and 3 bolts and the whole 'suitcase' will come right off the fire wall.

to get your ac delete plate.... read the "american graffiti thread" on this forum and say 5 hail marys and 5 our fathers.

take care - oaw

I'm not sure you will still be able to use the heater if you pull the air. You could block it all off if want to go with an aftermarket heater. Make your own delete, we made one in one day for my son's 65 turning race car.

thanks for the replies.

for sure i want to keep the heater, it's like my emergency secondary cooling device :o but i also want to look into aftermarket heaters now.....i imagine it can't be much more difficult to install than routing a couple of water pipes, a wire, and bolting up right?

Rick, my metal fabrication skills are pretty bad, non-existent actually, so I'll probably go with one of those pretty, pre-made billet delete plates if i get around to doing this.

now i'm gonna search for that thread and get my rosary out....:(

You might want to check out the link below, they have a kit to replace the a/c and retain the heater.
