I have a 69 chevelle and I am looking to purchase an in dash kit for an aftermarket cd player. I am having a hard time locating one. I have tries my local electronic department stores and nobody seems to have them nor can they order them. Is there anyone that has found these units available that I can order. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cory

The only kit you will find is some tool used to cut a hole in the radio opening to accomodate the DIN chassis. There is no turning back then. Your options are many but none of them include the original dash.

Look at my under dash install and others will show you in the glove box.

I know that I have to cut the opening where the old Radio went and I am fine with that. I just need to kit to mount it in there so that It would stay put. I already have the radio and I just want to get it mounted where it looks good.

You need a DIN box. I got mine for free from my installer guy. Try your local stereo install shop. Cut the hole, slide it in and bend the tabs to hold it in place. Done. Your stereo slides into that. Lots of pics here of same thing, including mine. I used a brace in the back to help support the weight. Newer cars are designed for slide-in stereos but the older cars were not. That old plastic dash needs all the help it can get. You can get pointy drill bits made for plastic. Drill a small hole at each corner of your cut-out for a clean look.

I've been thinking about cutting the factory dash for the DIN box that came with my new cd player. I'm just nervous about customizing and cutting stuff. for a long time i wanted to keep the car all original. Are there under dash mounts that i can use?

Here's a link to what I used in mine. Works great and easy to install.

Not telling you what to do.......but once you cut the dash it is history and if you ever want to put the original radio back your stuck with that big hole. I put my c/d player unit in my glove box as I could not bring myself to cut the dash. Having said that it is your car and you need to do what makes you happy. Good luck on your decision.

Its your car but i so wish the guy that had my car before me had so not cut the dash. I replaced it with a reproduction but it dont fit like an original. If u really want to cut a hole in a reproduction and keep the original original. Your car your call!

what I did was mount a amp in the trunk and ran a 1/2 in. pin to co axial cable to it. Ran the cable next to the seat and console. When I turn the car on the amp turns on. I hook it to a MP3 player. That way I dont have to carry the cd's and still have the original radio in the dash! radio shack has the cable for about 10 bucks. jim
