Alright, I'm at a crossroads here and I'm in need of some opinions. I have a 468 being finished up and a m22 for a trans. I currently have a 153 teeth flywheel and I'm wondering if its worth the additional money to upgrade the bell and flywheel to the big bell and 168 teeth flywheel?

Is .5" really worth the addtional 200+ dollars?

thanks for the help,

Rob

YES. My little 283 in a 56 used the 10.5. The 454 needs the 11.

option#1= i seem to remember a company (ram??) that made/makes a 10.75 or 10.8125" clutch setup that fits on the small flywheel,
option #2= use a centerforce dual friction clutch setup that has more holding power.
these could work for you, depends how hard you drive.

I appreciate the help. I will not be driving too aggressive. It is a wagon used for the street and cruising. I'm just trying to decide if changing the bell, flywheel, clutch, and starter are really worth the extra dollars right now. It seemed to operate fine with the smaller flywheel prior to taking it all apart. I just want to make the right decision, but then again, is there a right or wrong to all of this?

Thanks,
Rob

153t / 10.5" clutch will be fine.

I trap 125mph in the 1/4 at 3950# with a 153t/10.5 flywheel & clutch combo. With modern clutch compositions that extra 1/2" in diameter isn't the end all, be all anymore. I actually prefer the smaller flywheel for both less flywheel mass and also more header clearance as it moves the starter inboard a little bit.

Now that I see what type of vehicle you will be using and for cruising I would leave it as is. No need for the added exspense IMO. Especially since thats the way it has been with no problems.

Yah, I actually just spoke to my father who owned the car until I got it, and he said that he swapped out the big flywheel, bell, etc, etc, because he couldn't get it to stop grinding gears. He said he messed with it constantly, messing with all of the adjustments, and couldn't get it to shift right, until he switched back to the smaller setup, and got a heavy duty small flywheel and for some strange reason it cured it. Who knows!!

thanks for the help guys.:hurray:
