It's not a 'velle, but there are a lot of smart guys on here, so give me your thoughts on this:

I have a lead on a 68 GTO rolling chassis. The body is complete and virtually rust free in primer although it has a few dings in the RF fender. There is some glass missing and the interior is pretty much dead. It also has a clear title, and I verified the VIN as a true gto.

Asking price is $1000, is that about right?
TIA!

You can't get much for a grand these days.......a '65 gto 4-spd. console,....or a whole '68 gto......do it !....offer $800, then feel good when ya get it for $900

Yeah I know what you mean, mainly, I was hoping for something to flip quickly and profit. 65-67 and 04-06 are the only gto years that really interest me and I already have a full stable, I dont even know where it would go lol. I may still look into it further and stash it at a buddy's house.

meanwhile the voice in the back of my head says, "youre 19, you dont need 4 cars" oh I need help. :D

I'd probably pass on it if your only intention is a quick flip. GTOs, in general, don't seem to get the same value as Chevelles.

Maybe if it was a '65, or a 4-speed, or Ram Air car, etc... But a "primered" shell... And could that primer be hiding something (even if its not, that will be a question haunting prospective buyers when you try to sell...

On the otherhand, IF you have the place, $1000 (or $800+) isn't too much money, so even if you lost, you wouldn't lose very much...

IMO, I'd pick it up after a thorough inspection...

The 68 Goat is one of my favorite muscle cars ever!
Since the car is a roller, I'd buy it and drop in a healthy SBC, 4 speed, and 3:55 rear and have fun with it!

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to pass on it, I have better things to do with that money (more mods!). It seemed like it might be a good thing, but I'll leave it for someone else.
It turns out its on craigslist, I heard about it from a friend, here's the link if anyones interested:

FYI,a 1968 GTO holds its value..trust me..thats why I said I would take 10 of them at $1000 each..I have seen 68 GTO's go for more cash than any other A-bodies for 1968 unless its a Hurst/Olds
A typical nice 1968 GTO is worth easily equal if not more than a 68 SS396 in similar condition
I know,I do this for a living :) Kinda like hedge funds ;)

Oh..and its a solid body from Arizona?? Give me twenty of them @ $1000 so I can work out a transport discount! ;) :D
I looked at the link,if that car was local I would have bought it and sold it all ready for easily $2500

Buy it, if you want more info about the car, try this link to Performance Years
http://216.178.81.108/forums/index.php? Good group with lots of info for most Pontiac's.

I guess its a regional thing...

Here in Nor Cal, I have seen several (4-5 at least), 68 and 69 real GTOs, most under $10K and mostly complete, mostly solid, but projects needing resto... These cars seem to languish, and often come around again for sale several weeks or months later... Last year, I almost bought a '69, matching numbers, base-motor, 4-speed, older resto needing interior "installed" (had a Super kit from OPGI, still in the boxes), no-rust California car with nice paint. Guy was down to $13K and I was on my way with the cash. Got cold-feet and he backed out... Came up a few months later and was down to an "asking price" of $15K again... I think it finally sold.
