: My new present for Fathers day

My wife bought this for Fathers day for us. It's a '88 21 foot mini-day cruiser. Has Littlefield blower with twin dominators. Velvet drive with 1.29 gears. Bought from the original owner, 71 years old, who had the the boat built/molded for him. His wife cried when we pulled it out of his garage. Has original paint and upholstery. Electric cavitaion plates. Copy of a Spectra. He has the names of the guys who glassed the mold and the name of the upholstry. He got the mold, did two boats then destroyed the mold. Boat is just as clean on the underside as the top. Boat has 138 hrs on it. 7.75 compression, full roller motor. Even got another extra new piston with the balance weight written on it. He bought 9 pistons when he had the motor built so he would have a spare. Motor 20 hours in the 18 years. Also got another 454 4 bolt main motor with the boat. This was his add: Bob McIntire rebuilt the engine almost 20 years ago. I was an engine rebuilder myself but I had him do it due to his reputation. As far as the heads and crank go its been too long. At the time they were the best. I remember in the early 80's the crank cost me $800. The 454-4 bolt main is bored I believe 120over. The Littlefield Blower was rebuilt and polished at that time. The engine to the best of my knowledge has less that 20 hours on it and the hours on the boat is very low. It has been stored under cover all its life. The boat is a Spectra copy with the deep V.

I have a 69 Sanger flatbottom that needs paint, but it isn't kid friendly, no neutral, start and go. Was going to put a powerglide in it. Had bought this for the sanger http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w131/1david396/IMG_1708-1.jpg

Sweet boat. Looks CLEAN! Is it Gel coat or paint?

How long have you had your '69 Sanger flat? Do you hang out at forums over at www.performanceboats.com (http://www.performanceboats.com) ?

That guy had a krap load of money in that boat and it sat there.
How often do you see that with boats. All the time.

I will never own a boat.

well, maybe a sail boat.

I own a boat. Not much different than owning a old car. They are both MONEY PITS :D . There are guys who drop tens of thousands into a car and only drive it 100 miles or less a year or only on the best of summer nights. Same deal with boats.

Problem with the average person that owns a boat is they own a POS that isn't worth dumping money into, but they continue dumping money into it anyways. If you own old boats like David or I own they are like old muscle cars. The exception is, that most desirable old boats (even the really nice restored ones) don't sell for the $$$ an old muscle car demands. It's a limited market. So, you own an old boat for the love, not the $$$. I view both boating and muscle cars as a hobby not an investment.
