If I go from a PG with a stock floor shifter/console to a TH350, is ther a conversion kit available to use the stock shifter and does it have a correct gear lens so I know what gear I am in???

Thanks

Actually, Mark, I was considering a 2004r, but I may have a 2.73 rear gear so a 1:1 top gear would work ok without installing a 3 series rear end. I'd love to have an OD but I don't want to buy a rear end and tranny to do it.

I was told that if the car has 2.73 gears that is a 2 series carrier and I must have a different rear end to use 3.55 gears which would be perfect for a 200r4. Is this true or can I put 3.55 gears in a car with 2.73 gears?

Thanks
Chuck

OK, thanks guys. Now back to the really improtant question from my earlier post. they make adapter rings for 2 series to go to 3 series if im not mistaken

however a 200-4r is gonna have the same gearing as the th350 with the od gear on top of that so you still better off even with the 273 rear

That's interesting Jeff. With the 2.73 gear it seems that I would not be very good from a start and the OD would be in the dirt (1500 rpm at 60 mph). Will it run OK with the 2.73? If it get's out of the hole OK in normal driving that's OK. Sorry, I'm a big block guy and everyone is always concerned with lugging the engine.

Thanks

I'm planning a PG-TH350 swap, with the 3.07 rear. I got my shifter conversion from true connections, but it's a cable swap, and a bracket for the column shift. I've thought long and hard about the 200-4R, but it's just more money than I can fork out (vs. a TH350) and I can put some 235-70R-15s on the back.

If 12-bolt diff, The spacer is 3 to 4 series
I believe there is interference (bolt head) when trying the spacer ring from 2 to 3 series

The 8.5" 10 bolt one carrier fits all

well you still gonna have the 1:1 ratio you wanting out of od and pretty much the same gearing. so if down to the point it lugs drop it out of od. at 1500 at 60 i cant see it lugging but it may but at 65-70 your gonna be at a great cruising rpm.

look at this page and compare the 200 4r to the th350 http://www.tciauto.com/Products/TechInfo/gear_ratios.asp

you will have deepers gears on the 1st and 2nd gear than the th350 but still have the od and the 1:1 ratio both to use also.

That's great, George. It is a 10 bolt so I will likely drive it after the tranny swap and see if it needs a littl more kick. I am thinking that even a 3.31 or 3.55 will be great on the highway with the .67 OD. My 67 has a TKO-600 with a .67 so I have a good reference.

Rellay good advise guys, thanks.

Chuck ..... I'm not up to speed on which gear set fits which carrier .......(no book at home)

BUT its 8.2 ..... not 8.5 !!

& I would think someone around here would have the correct carrier laying in a box in the bottom of their storage shed ..... 8.2's are given away most of the time !!

OK Mark, thanks. I won't tackle that. I do what I can do well and backlash isn't one of them. I have a guy in Santa Clara, near San Jose, who does great rear end work. I will ask him what I need, find the parts and have him install it. I think 3.31 will do the trick, giving me a good first gear and great crusing RPM with the OD.

Thanks
