Hi all, a newbie here.
This is my first post on this forum and I hope that I will be welcomed in, because I love these Chevelle's.
My question is concerning a block I picked up in a swap deal, along with two other blocks.
I was told this one was a 454ci the casting numbers on the block are (10237299)?
I checked out Mortec's site and could not find this casting number, I did find the head casting number which indicated the heads were from a late 90's 427ci (truck engine).
Anyone have a way to indentify the above casting number?
And if this engine is worth trying to build a performer out of?
Thanks, Jeff

PS:
The other two blocks I got in the deal, one being a '72 402ci Hiperf Pass casting number (3999290).
The other being a '67 396ci Hiperf Truck/Pass casting number (3902406).
If I got my infomation correct.

The 454 dosen't ring a bell I believe that a 7297 block is a L-79 vortec engine from around late 90's.The 9290 block could be a 396 or 402 most were truck some were pass.could be 2 or 4 bolt. Not sure about the 2406 block is it 2 or 4 bolt and check the block assembly # it sould have a letter code like (CTX)on the end of #.That sould tell you what the engine is from and when it was built.

Thanks for the reply,
Sorry about being so late anwsering the question about the 396ci block, it is a two bolt main and has "Hi-perf Pass" cast on the back of the block. I think it is out of a '67, but I haven't run assembly codes yet.
The 402ci is a four bolt block and has "Hi-perf truck/pass" cast in the back of the block.

I'm in the middle of a week long course with my job to re-new a certificate, cramming for tests at my age sucks smile.gif
Thanks again.
