is going to a thinner throttle shaft worth the effort? ive seen them listed in JEGS as replacement parts. i really dont want to cut the set that are in the carb but a replacement set could be swapped out and the originals saved. Dave

Vizard says its worth some power(I want to say he listed 5-10hp on a 400Hp mill) and can free up about 30-40cfms.
If you look at any aftermarket vendor modifyed carbs, this is almost always done to them.

A bigger carb is a lot less work....
30-40 cfm for just shafts? Not...
Your thinking choke horn for that much.
Might try a 850 base plate if your running a 750.
Or just get a 950HP. very little diff...

I would suspect that applies to the smaller carbs and has less influence on the larger carbs.
And I personally don't like the idea of thinned shafts on a street car.
Still think an 950HP is a better route.

Because of this the only way to get thinner blades is with a machined product such as AED sells, they are not stainless though. They are the standard steel jobbers.I was told to treat them to a blueing liquid, the type they use in gun shops. This is too keep them from rusting.
Also as you have seen the throttle shafts on the 950HP's are not thin. You can still replace them with with thinned/slabbed shafts. Both products are available from AED.

I think Vizard mentions the 3310 vac secondary as his choice for an all around-er carb in that same book. i could be wrong tho.

It's a trick used in racing classes where you're limited to a particular carb size (by way of throttle bore or venturi diuameter or carb # or whatever) to get more flow. Not applicable to a street car or a bracket racer, where you can just buy a bigger carb to begin with.
