I have a 65 Chevelle 2 dr-hdtp weighing in at 31080 lbs. I has a th350 trans, 373 posi rearend, 67/327 w/ flat top pistons 30 over w/ a crane part# 114822 480 cam. The motor is fresh and had the cam in it already. I will be installing Edelbrock performer rpm 64cc aluminum heads, performer rpm intake, and 600 cfm performer carb. I have had negative feedback on the 480 cam. I feel that a smaller cam will be better for me at idle and street use (no racing for me). Can anybody suggest a engine cam and a converter for my trans? Will the stock converter be good enough? I like the rump of a wild cam, but I worry about sitting at a stop light at idle, and potential vacume problems. I do want optimum performance for my Saturday night cruiser. :(

Before I built my 383,my 66 cam with a 327. My set up was pretty much identical to yours, and I ran the comp XE268 and the XE274.Both of which woke that engine right upBoth pulled real good through the entire power band.

Before you select a cam read up on matching a cam with CR here (http://members.uia.net/pkelley2/DynamicCR.html)

Well, at 31080 lbs, I think you need an allison V12 aircraft engine...... ;)
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Imho, the little motor will run great with just a good old CC 268HE or a Crane 272/272 Energizer in it!!!
Remember, it's just a little bugger...
