: rear main seal problem help

guys I have a big problem with my big block chevy 4 bolt block happens that it was aling bored,the main seal tight the crankshaft when its torque.without the seal its runs free,when seal is on have to use a wrench to move crank.i thinkthat crank may burn the seal if i use as is,want know if some company has a special two peace oil seal to fix problem.thanks

You are right, if it is that tight it will not work.
It sounds like they didn't bore the seal lip area when they did the rear main cap.
As I recall it should be 3.125-3.130". It could probably be a little less but I wouldn't want it any smaller than say 3.120"
If we line hone a block we always check them & redo them in a boring mill if necessary.
There is no seal that is smaller for a Rat.
If the lip is the right size it's possible you might have gotten the wrong seal in your gasket set.
Also if enough was cut off too make the seal tight you need to check to see if you need a shorter timing set.

Just a thought, what if you put a little ultra black between the halves of the seal???
I think that would loosen the fit, but I dont know if it would give it enough if it's that tight.
