Does anyone know where I can get a nice driveshaft loop for My '66 'BU? Anyone have any feedback on the universal ones?

Thanks,
Joe Phillips

I had a universal, but after I saw how much fab I'd need to do to make it work I went with Metco. It's a very nice piece.

I went to Metco's website and didn't see any listings for 66/67 Chevelles. Only 68-72's were listed. I ended up making one for my 66 out of a driveshaft loop from Jegs and some 1/4"x 2" strips of steel. I think it came out really nice. I made it so I could bolt it to the floor brace instead of the pan only. I hated having to drill holes in the car, but I'd hate having a driveshaft pound the hell out of the bottom of my car even more.

The Metco bolts to the floor pan immediately in front of the floor brace.
I feel the same way as Tom, I cringed drilling the floor but would rather do that then have the drive shaft bang around if it were to let go.
Don't forget there is the kind of loop that uses the trani mount.

I used a loop that bolts to the trans crossmember, where the trans mount bolts to. I have stomped on the gas plenty of times with it. I just haven't drag raced with it yet. I sure as hell wasn't going to drill holes in my floor either.

What's the big deal with drilling a few holes in the floors? The bolts will fill them in quite nice. :D

I hated to do it,,but drilled holes in the floor. I'm not too excited about doing the rollbar either, but if ya wanna play, ya gotta pay.

I debated myself for weeks before finally having the 6 point installed last Jan. My floors are 100% rust free.
In fact, I really dislike climbing in and out of the car to this day. graemlins/sad.gif

Better to be safe than sorry, right? If you're running fast enough to warrant a cage, you're doing something right! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
