That cable controls the air coming out of your side dash vent.If you look up under your dash, there is a short plastic connector that runs between your vent and goes to your firewall. If this plastic connector was off,you would be able to see the air door that the cable opens and closes.Even with the connector on,you can still see the small arm that opens and closes the air door. This is where you connect your cable. Hope this helps, Greg.

ok i found the cable on the passenger side, but while i was underneath i found another leaver that sounds like it opens and closes another set of vents, its in the middle of the lower center vent and the passenger side cowl vent. what does this do and how do i move this without getting underneath?

thanks

That is the world famous Astroventilation:yes: its a round vent that connects to your backside of your cowl, I think its also called the cowl pendulum:confused:
And yes the upper vent knob controls the pendulum.
My car is also a non AC car and I have the same thing.

Pictures are worth 1K words to me. Here are a few that might help you reconnect. I took them as I disassembled my own '70.
