Damn man, so close for so long.
Why don't ya rip those heads off and do a slight amount of bowl porting.

As it is your just waiting for the right conditions.

Lonnie Nice rides. I live in Gilbert also I am suprised I have never seen your cars around, what part of town do you live in?

Lonnie, according to David Vizard and many other sources, running 1.6 rockers on the intakes only usually makes more power than running them on both. You might try that. Probably not enough to pick up .06 but it might get you closer. If you put 1.5's on the exhaust, be sure to check push rod length.

How did you calculate your CR? I get 9.24 using a .015" gasket and .025" deck. With the cam you have you could use more compression, say 10:1. That would bump up the power some.

You don't have the stall of the converter listed. Maybe there is some more ET there. Just some thoughts.

Thanks Joe, near Val Vista & Guadalupe where are you? You haven't seen the blue car probably because I don't drive it much and it hasn't run in a couple of years. The 70 Chevelle on my webpage used to be my daily driver.

Converter is Coan 11" Pro street, flash 2900-3000.

I'm sure more stall, head porting, more compression, maybe 1.5's on the exhaust and a bunch of other things will help ET. But I built this car to be a daily driver and it has exceeded my expectations already, especially since I added weight with the A/C and went from 4.10's to 3.42 gears.

If it hits an 11 some day great, if not, it doesn't matter. I didn't want to put a roll bar in my strip car, there is no way I'm putting one in this car. I don't want to spend any more money on it either. It runs good and is reliable, that's good enough for me.

My other car, however, is another story. It is now under reconstruction but is still $$$ limited.

Pat- 4.06 bore, 3.75 stroke, 18cc dish pistons, .028 head gasket, .018 piston to deck, 64cc heads, 4.06 head gasket bore. 9.67:1 7.9 DCR
87 octane. I think you used 70cc heads.

Lonnie,
Im at Lindsay and Guadalupe area, do you ever go to any cruise events around town?

That's kind of funny, only 1 mile from each other. I hardly go to anything car related other than a dragstrip. Just not my thing I guess. Maybe if they set up a cruise to the drags and then bracket race, but bench racers don't actually race.

Do you know any of the guys from the 1st gen Camaro club? I'm not a member but I talk to a couple of the guys. I did go to their drag day though, about 4 of 'em showed up. A lot of nice people though.

Lonnie Don't feel too bad,I hardly ever go to car events either. It has something to do with seeing the same old cars.

Well it's not that so much as hearing all that 50's music graemlins/sad.gif

If they would play a few of the tunes ok,
but from start to finish DO-WHOP---- graemlins/angry.gif

At least they started playing newer music at the drags, it's a lot easier to hold down the track food now tongue.gif

Best to get rid of that 600 and get yourself a 750DP.

I know about the magazine article...

We don't race articles do we??? tongue.gif LOL

The key to the performance difference is probably in the tuning and your choice of transmission and gears, and what about the converter's stall speed.

Good news Lonnie! You'll get that 11 second ET with a good tail wind. ;) Or maybe you can put on another Mark VIII fan! :D

All kidding aside, congrats on owning two very cool cars.

yeah im planning on getting a 750 single pump eventually .. Id like to see what i can run with this 600 first.. seeing as i already have it.

What kind of suspension setup are you running lonnie?

Thanks Mike, I tested the fan on and off, it doesn't make any difference in this car like the other. Maybe because of the A/C condenser restricting air flow already or the CS130 alt I have in this car. Who knows? I need to try with the fan on and the alt. disconnected.

Joe, I'll let you know next time. I couldn't find your email last thursday so I left a post in that converter thread. I see it is on your web page, I'm blind. My buddy has all my passes on video, if he ever give them to me I'll try to post em.

Jinks, front suspension is stock w/poly bushings and cheap gas shocks from autozone. Rear is stock single leaf with same shocks and worn out bushings, polys are in the box still. J bolt slapper bars that fall about 2 inches short of the spring eye. I have the 1 inch tall rubber snubbers tight against the spring. I know this is supposedly not the way to do it but my springs sag so much the traction bars are actually holding the car up a little. It works though.

Ever since I relocated the battery to the trunk, my traction has been better and more consistant. Even with my 8+ year old slicks.

Lonnie, congrats on the new times...to ahve a car with those gears, low,low 12's are very nice! Not many can do that with 3.42's. smile.gif
