Hi all! I have a 67 Chevelle and I am trying to install a 454 previously had a 283. Everything in the engine compartment is stock, the problem I am having is that I am trying to install new headers and the headers are rubbing on the engine cradle before the engine hits the engine mounts. The mounts are small block mounts could this be the problem??? The headers are Flowtech 311 30-which are for my application.

mounts are the same i believe. the only diffrence is that big block have an extra gusset. some and most times you have to ding a couple primary tubes to get them in. What do you mean by engine cradle? Block? oil pan?

It is rubbing on the frame that the mounts rest on kind of by the passenger side tire. I can't figure it out why.

The mounts (the ones that bolt to the engine are the same) the perches (the mounts that bolt to the cross member) are different. Not saying that is your problem, but it will cause other problems.
You have the headers on the engine while your installing it?

Are you sure your not hitting your starter on one side and the oil filter on the other??

Maybe you need to install the headers after the engine is closer to the mounts. Set the headers in close to where they will be and then drop the engine in and bolt them up.

just cause they fit your application doesn't necesarily mean you can drop in a motor with them installed....... i have a 64 with bbc. and to install the application correct headers I had to take one motor mount loose jack up driver side super high and go in from the bottom. pass. side from the top.......

The other weekend I installed my motor and headers. Sure it was a SBC. But I put the headers in the engine bay (tied back with some wire so they would be out of the way) and lowed the motor in. Took my time and installed the motor and headers by moving each a little at a time. Went in real nice...

Just a long shot, but could you possibly have Camaro headers. I've never installed an engine with the headers on, but I think that this might be your problem. Like mentioned above, just tie them back, install the engine and hook them up.
