STEVO-70 Feb 19th, 04, 11:15 AM **OFF TOPIC** I could have started another post however, it seems as though UDHarold will be replying to this post.
Sorry Javier...
Harold. ever hear back from TERRY at FCR about my cam situation. I have e-mailed you about it, and to date have not received a reply. It's been a month or longer and the situation has not been resolved yet. Have not been able to reach him thus far. I'll try again today. Thanks for your cooperation.

HPseeker Feb 19th, 04, 12:48 PM GENE THANKS ,do you think this cam would be my best choise in a solid cam ? I did some search and Harold recomends this cam a lot to BBC ,and only read good things from there users ,since Harold it is very bussy at work ,please help me pick the correct solid cam not roller ,
I put back the idea of a solid roller for a while because I only got stock 781 heads with some pocket port and 2.06 -1.72 valve ,so I know there will be to much with the solid roller cam I was going to buy , graemlins/clonk.gif
But the 276/284 seems to be there if any other cam recomendation will be appreciate .
Can I use the comp cam springs 911 with this cam ? they are
OD 1.525 /ID 1.110
OPEN PRESS 309#/1.400
SEAT PRESS 122#/1.900
I got this set installed
427L88 Feb 19th, 04, 8:10 PM That cam rocks! Those springs might be OK, but check for coil bind. You give 1.90" ( installed height) and then .500 less, 1.40". Here you'll need to have a full .600 less on the exhaust ( .575 after lash.)or 1.325". If the heads are off, it be easy to take one to a machinist and have them compress the spring to 1.300" and see if it binds. Also, you might have them write down the spring pressures at 1.300"
Binds just means that the spring bottoms out before the cam does. Not a good thing. You want at least .050" gap between the coils of the spring at max lift. Check it. Comp 924s will work. My L88 springs are near max with this cam.
HPseeker Feb 19th, 04, 8:43 PM Gene ,I verify the comp 911 valves springs at a catalog and the are good to only .530 lift the comp 924 seems the way to go but for now I was not thinking to take the heads off the block ,with the 924 I would need to do some work to the valve spring base of the heads to make the bigger dia. spring work they are
OD 1.51O" ,NOW this got me thinking . because at comp cam they say I got to do the jop because they are double and nee the valve seat to be machinist ,but arent the 911 ,od 1.525 or the work is in around the guide to make ???
427L88 Feb 19th, 04, 8:59 PM Yup. I was just going say, bounced into the Comp cams catalog right now and saw that the 911s are for like 274S on down, ie. .525 lift 6000 rpm.
No go. Hey, face it, you need good stiff, stout springs to run a good solid cam. Least amount of spring you can go is my setup, L88 spring kit. .560 lift 115/340. I've seen them sold for $100+ for the kit. The springs are cheapest here....http://www.competitionproducts.com/page27.html, for $40 a set.
Crane 99893 will work. They're $75 a set.
HPseeker Feb 19th, 04, 9:07 PM I need to to some work to the valve springs pockets ,I fix my last reply.please read.
HPseeker Feb 19th, 04, 9:22 PM THE crane springs 99893 seems excellent but Do I stiil got to do the valve pocket work to make them fit ? they are
od 1.460
MAX NET LIFT w/.60 clearance :.710
seat press.130# @ 1.850"
seat402# @ 1.150"
coil bind @1.080 rate(lbs):391 lbs/in
WITH that OD DIA. they should fit ....hope
UDHarold Feb 19th, 04, 9:41 PM Javier,
The part number for the 285/295R10 is 50199, which means a custom BBC roller cam, and 02-UR35-UR36-10-A01, which tells everyone which masters to use.
The 276/284F10 has the following part number:
402A3LUN, which is all you need to order the BBC 276/284F10.
The Crane 99893 are SMALL BLOCK springs. You need a spring like Lunati's 73124(1.500" OD, 135 lbs at 1.88", about 350 lbs open, or CompCams' 925, with 1.510" OD, 125 lbs at 1.900", 340 lbs at 1.35".
Good luck with everything....
UDHarold
HPseeker Feb 26th, 04, 3:30 AM Harold Sir ,I just went to the Lunati bb cam page and the springs are recomended are different at the page 73121 ,should I stay with the 73124 you recomended ?
427L88 Feb 26th, 04, 9:24 AM The 73124's look right, the 21's are bigger dia and a bit heavier. A misprint in the catalog!? They'll work OK.
I'm going to buy a $40 set of GM springs as a backup. These are the "smaller" 1.48" dia springs ( the Cranes I mentioned are 1.46" - I didnt know they were small block springs, they spec out perfect for the smaller big block).
Is that what you mean by machining the valve pockets, or are you talking about for the little PC oil seal?
HPseeker Feb 26th, 04, 6:58 PM Gene ,that 454-502 valve spring from Comp Products it is the one I am using with my ex268-H cam ,I got the the kit with valves ,retainers ,springs ,went we first assemble the motor ,the should work with the 402A3LUN solid cam ???
427L88 Feb 26th, 04, 9:27 PM Javier, I don't know exactly what springs I have on my car. My buddy can't remember. They TEST the same as the 502 springs , about 115 seat and 340 nose. Coil bind is really close, within .050", but close. Would hate to say yeah, and then find out they bind on you, but I'm 90% certain they will work.
HPseeker Feb 27th, 04, 6:16 PM I orderred the cam and lifters from summit today , I will verfy all at installalion ,I will take two springs and verify them at a valve spring pressure tester with the .600 lift plus .060 =.660 over to be sure of coli bind ,will let you guys know ,
If I change SPRINGS to the bigger dia. it is for sure I got to change retainers ,right?????
HPseeker Mar 1st, 04, 8:25 AM GENE,I verify the street/strip valve ,retainers ,502 h/o springs locks valves seals I got from COMPETITION PRODUCTS and they said it is good up to .560 lift.
The springs may be are safe to run with this cam but I am not sure if the KIT (RETAINERS) can go up to .600
Competition Products got a kit part # VSA8 :STREET/STRIP that includes dual springs, 10* retainers and locks
INTALLED HEIGHT 1.900 TO .600 LIFT FOR $$114.00
spings # 98443 OD 1.460/1.110
ID 1.110/.800
SEAT PRESS 145#@1.880
OPEN PRESS 325#@1.250
COILBIND 1.150
I still will verify my springs and retainer to see if they can handle the .600 lift leaving .060 in coilbind .
427L88 Mar 1st, 04, 8:56 AM Javier,
Yeah, now I'm questioning whether or not I have those GM springs on my car. I was told they were, adn now the fella says they were Crane or Crower!?!? All I know is that they zip up to 7000, and I've had them to 7400 where they floated a bit. I keep the new motor under 7000 if I can, and these springs are fine. Light on the seats, 115 or so, and heavy on the nose 345, or so at full .600 lift.
The springs you ordered from Summit seems well matched to the cam, but DEFINTELY break it in on the outers springs ONLY. I know its a hassle to put the inners back on later, but it's not that bad. This is help insure a good break-in and long cam life.
If you check your GM springs , I'd be dyin' to know how they test. THink I might be shelling out $7 to ship those springs back.
Gene
