i am planning to put a high rise intake manifold on my stock 396 engine with a 4 barrel qjet. will it add more horsepower if that is the only thing i change and which brand is best??

Im putting a edelbrock RPM airgap on my 396, I would strongly recomend a holley or edelbrock carb while youre at it. Should pick probably 50 or so horse.

I think that you are a little too optomistic with a 50 hp expectation from an intake change. I think that 25 hp. would be a pretty good improvement.

If this engine is stock I'd go with a Performer. If its high performance maybe the RPM. Really think only about 10-20 hp improvement.

Whatever you change to, just be sure AND gently close your hood while looking under it the first time after the change b/c there's been many a dented hood due to too tall an air cleaner hold down nut!!!

pdq67 pdq67 is right, if your looking to put a RPM manifold on a 1968 your going to also need to get yourself a drop base air cleaner also. That mainfold would not fit under my factory hood with a standard 14" air cleaner. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
