Got some of my exhaust done, and wanted to paint it because ceramic coating the entire exhaust cost way too much money!! Eastwood sells a paint that looks good, I have also used duplicolors ceramic 1200 degree paint but that stuff is too shiny. I want something that looks decent but not totally spray painted, andy suggestions or pics? graemlins/waving.gif

I've used the Eastwood silver exhaust paint before, and it turns out pretty good. Although, it was on a dyno motor, and they received about 2 hours of run time. The only problem I noticed was that if you don't get it squeeky-clean, it will bubble and flake.

In my opinion, it's either ceramic or nothin' for the headers. For cooler applications, like the head and tail pipes, I'm sure you'll like the Eastwood stuff...spray it on if you can.

I use Thermo-Tec Hi-Heat Coating on my exhaust. I spray on two coats of VHT hi-temp primer and then two light coats of the Thermo-Tec silver coating. The end product looks really great and its good
to 2000 degrees.

Overview

Protect your exhaust wrap.

Exhaust Wrap Coating, High Temperature Silver, 11oz. Can, Each

This Hi-Heat coating from Thermo-Tec is a great way to finish off a clean and well-protected exhaust insulating wrap application.
The coating will protect the wrap from abrasion and harmful liquid spills. Extra resins and binders toughen the surface, extend the life of the wrap by protecting it from friction, and seal the pores to minimize the penetration of harmful liquids. This coating also works excellently as a paint on metal surfaces.

I agree with Silver69Camaro, it's all in the prep anytime you're using a coating(paint). I used a silver coloured VHT hi-temp paint(1400F) on my catback exhaust and their black header hi-temp coating on some used headers(rusting already at the welds after 100kms altho I didnt prep them as well as I could, nor were they new nor did I use enough paint IMO). Catback still looks perfect 20,000kms later on the outside and the inside is still like new as well... minus it's black instead of the white I originally painted it. I didn't paint the cat as it's stainless anyway.

Here are some photos I just took of my Dr Gas X-pipe exhaust. I painted the exhaust about 18 months ago with the Thermo-Tec Hi-Heat coating
and I have had it on/off my Chevelle about a dozen
times since. I remove the exhaust when I go to the
track and as you can see it gets abused.

The 1500 degree VHT works great. It is really thin, so you have to spray it on and give it a minute to get tacky, than respray. The key is in the prep work, if your going to VHT your headers have them bead blasted, with your exhaust use some red scotch brite on it to give it a profile for the VHT to stick to. It will not burn off if you prep it well.
