I got a new stocker oil pump, I was going to swap out and put the blue spring in that it came with. I noticed on my old pump it has a little disc on top/ in front of the spring, the new one doesnt have that. Does this matter?
Also, do you guys use the plastic drive shaft sleeve? Plastic over steel hmm.... ?

Replace plastic sleeve for the much stronger steel sleeve! You do not need the disc as this increases oil pressure which robs hp! Hows the engine coming together?

Phil,
The steel sleeve driveshafts are cheap and have a "feel good" benefit, but the stock nylon ones have never been a source of problems. The top is located by the distributor gear. Point is, get a steel one if it makes you feel better. Otherwise, run the stocker.

I might pick up a steel one today, my neighbor has a 429 is his ford and his busted on him! Who knows how long it was run, and it's a Ford ;) Id go either way I guess. The engine is coming along pretty well I broke 1 piston ring so its on order, basically thats all holding me back to finish the pistons. Almost ready to seal up the bottom half w/ pan :D It's all smooth sailing from there. THAT stuff I know how to do, all this shortblock business was pretty new to me.
I'll try to get some pics or something if you guys want to see it.

always use a steel sleve when upping spring pressure . never use that plastic junk . but hey its your money and your motor.

Hot rodders always got to be doing something. Including me of course. smile.gif
It sounds as if it doesn't matter mechanically so do what you want. Unless you are turning some high revs the stock pump is fine with the spring it has. I wish I had a dollar for every good oil pump that was tossed.
I would bolt or weld the pickup if you're paranoid.
