THE DUDE

Just wondering if anybody was using one of these? Since the car is going to be a strip only car, I thought I might try one of these. Are they hard to get used to? Also, you cannot go directly from third gear to neutral right? What happens if you have an emergency like a hung throttle at the end of the track? You can't just shift into neutral to stop the car.. What would you do, just shut the car off?

I run an ATI reverse pattern manual valve body in a th400. The reverse pattern is real nice as your pulling the shifter which is a more natural arm movement while racing. Pushing a shifter forward is more difficult when the cars accelleration is pushing your body back into the seat.
it's also a much simpler design as there's no kick down likeage/hookups, nor is there a vacuum modulator or governor, etc...no external hook ups other than the shifter and trans cooler lines.
With racing, you do not want to shift to neutral anyways. I just let off the gas and let the chassis settle a second, then gently get on the brakes. If for example your throttle stuck, simply kill the ignition system. On my car, I have an auxillary ignition kill switch wired and installed to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. If I need to kill the motor, I can flip the switch off and not risk locking the steering column. This switch also served two puroses as when I had the ignition curve locked out, I could spin the starter with the ignition turned off, then flip the switch up to fire the engine...easier on starters with locked ignition curves.
