: Joining w/ '79 Malibu-305, 4-Spd, Buckets and Posi.
SSboy Jun 3rd, 08, 12:52 PM Hey all! I just joined and will be looking for more information on my 1979 Malibu Classic. I have the build sheet for it and am currently decoding it. I'm probably going to be asking about some specific things like what the actual ZJ7 wheels looked like for the 79 and maybe help with some production numbers if I can't find them in a search. This looks like a great site and I'm sure everyone has a wide range of information to share. I know I'm not the most popular Chevelle (Malibu) but regardless I'll be posting more shortly.
Thanks
ss1970chev454 Jun 3rd, 08, 1:52 PM Welcome!
bracketchev1221 Jun 3rd, 08, 2:46 PM Welcome, I had a 78 with a factory stick and no a/c. If I remember correctly according to Super Chevy magazine there were about 1900 4 speed 79's built in the U.S. and in Canada shipped to the U.S. 78 had 1654 built and 80 was the rarest at 202. PM me if you have any other questions about the later malibus. I had my 78 4 speed car and a 79 auto car. Here is a picture of my old 78.

SSboy Jun 3rd, 08, 3:15 PM Great information, thanks. I'll definitely be PM'ing you in the near future.
Chuck Jun 3rd, 08, 11:30 PM Welcome to Team Chevelle SSBOY (how about a name). Try psoting in Chevelle Tech. Since you have a later model Chevelle you will find the most people there and maybe another buddy with some experience.
Great to have you on board.
Chuck

Are you Eric T.'s friend? I'm sure someone will be able to help or at least point you in the right direction. If you can share a scan of the build sheet over in the Tag Team forum some folks may be able to help out.
Welcome!

glennslanaker Jun 4th, 08, 10:51 PM i have always kinda liked this era of malibu. very simple, clean looking car, kind of like the '66-'67 nova. if i had unlimited space and time, i might buy one. post us pics if you can.
sg5492 Jun 5th, 08, 1:25 PM Welcome!! You might want to try maliburacing.com there is alot of info on that site.
Chevelle_Nut Jun 5th, 08, 1:45 PM I remember the 78-83 Malibu's being used in the Greensboro Police Department. Went for a ride alonge one time in one of them. That thing hauled!

Welcome Aboard!!!
It's a lot of fun, even though mine's not really all that fast.
bracketchev1221 Jun 6th, 08, 7:39 PM Mine wasn't that fast when I got mine either, but by the time I was done I had a high 11 sec street car. What is your goal with the car, restoration or street cruiser?
SSboy Jun 9th, 08, 12:46 PM I plan on either selling it or restoring it to original condition. I drove it during my high school years from spring to fall and stored it during the winters. It needs minor body work, paint and the unfortunate drivers side frame rail fixed in the back. It's really weird because the frame isn't rusty anywhere but that one spot. I know these cars are famous for this issue too. It's easily fixed as soon as I can find time to take the tank out, etc and replace the rear rail. I have some from an El Camino, but not sure if they'll fit...but I read on this forum that someone makes a replacement from the factory weld back, so I might look into those too.
Right now though it's just a fun car to drive around.
Take Care
