I have run in to a problem finding the correct big block oil pan for my 64 Chevelle 2 door wagon. I had Bischoff Racing Engines build me a 496 Roller motor for it and the oil pan that was on the car leaked so I threw it away and went to the local speed shop and picked up a pan and it didn't work. Then I ordered a pan from jegs. That didn't fit either. The pan bottoms out on the cross member and won't let the mill sit down into the motor mounts. I have built a number of 66-70 Chevelles and I've never ran into this problem before. I was wondering if the Moroso 6 Qt. T-Sump pan, Jegs P.N. 710-20403 would work. If any of you have any idea's it would be greatly appreciated. T.I.A.

Don, how close is the pan that bottoms on the crossmember? I had the same problem with a 7qt pan on a smallblock in my 69. I put a washer about 1/8" thick between the block and the motor mounts on all six bolts, and it gave me enough clearance. The other issue with Chevelles and deep pans is the inner tie rods will hit a deep pan at full steering lock. The grease fitting on the inners points straight out (and therefore pokes into the pan) and the fitting on the outers points down. The inner and outer tierods are otherwise identical. I just reversed the tie rods to solve this problem, and it works fine. The only downside is you now have to remove the tires to grease the outers. I hope you find a pan that fits without problems, but if not, maybe all that will give you some ideas anyways.

Just thought I would give you all an update. The Moroso P.N. 23043 Oil Pan worked out. It was a tight fit but it fit. For those of you who plan to stuff a Big Block in your 64-65 Chevelle. You will have to re route the brake line that runs across the cross member, and when you drop it in. You'll have to set it straight down into the car, but other than that everything bolts right up with no problem's.

The BES Racing Engines prepped 496 RAT Roller is now sitting between the fenders of the 64 Chevelle 2 door wagon. I'll sew everything up on Saturday. I'll let you all know how everything turns out.
