: Need Hub - Wheel Studs loose
Kazco Jun 2nd, 08, 7:53 AM Hi,
Need Help...
My son has a 71 Chevelle that the left side passenger wheel studs are loose (3 of them). A loose wheel caused the studs to round out the mounting where the studs are pressed in.
We have searched all the catalogs we have and cannot find a source for a replacement hub (has drum brakes). Does any know where we can get one.
There is a local you pull it junkyard but, I'm sure there are no chevelles there. Is there a later chevy they has the same left front hub we could use?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
gnicholson Jun 2nd, 08, 8:21 AM if the holes arent worn too bad i would weld the head side of the stud. ive done it numerous times without a problem. you could also build up the side of the holes with weld and have the holes remachined. last option is to get a stud with a larger shoulder and machine the hole for a press fit.i hate looking for parts so thats what i would do.

Mike,
Too bad I just threw 2 good front drum hubs away.:( I would have given them to you for nothing. Are the holes in the hub worn or is it just the threaded stud (or both)? If it's just the stud you can replace the studs and not the entire hub, press out the old/press in the new. If it is the hole on the hub side and the studs are ok you can just tack weld them in place (as said above) on the back side of the hub.
Good Luck.

Kazco Jun 9th, 08, 3:50 PM I want to say a big thanks to Pete, we received the hub.
He sent it before we could even pay him for the shipping. That's what I call a great team member.
Now we have to install it. We may wait for this heat spell to break. They are predicting 102 today and tomorrow.
Thanks Pete,
Mike
