No. They are completly different and not interchangeable. 69's have metal frames welded to the cab section. 70-72 is a unit that bolts in.

Since the 70-72 windshields are the same as the 68-69 with the exception of the antenna, I would think that the dash width would be the same.
I think you could put a 70-72 dash in a 69 IF you were to change out the metal framework that it attaches to and I don't think it would be nearly as difficult to do, (once you got into it) as one might think.

I think Nate is right on that. I believe it would be rather easy once you drilled out a few of the spot welds and moved it over. Its not much of a dash frame work their.

thanks guys. the reason why i was asking (and i should have mentioned this earlier) is that i have a 69 pontiac beaumont. the beaumont, as you may know, is the canadian version of the chevelle but comes with a dash that is identical to a 69 gto/lemans. my dash is severely cracked and needs to be replaced. since i am not going for an original resto, i don't mind putting in a dash that isn't original and was looking at the 70-72 chevelle dashes because i like the dash inserts that covan's make to put in aftermarket gauges etc. the beaumont dash is bolted in at the bottom on both ends and on each side of the steering column, as well as a bunch of bolts on top along the windshield. is this how the 70-72 dash bolts in?

I'm just lookng for a simple way to get a dash that will house some aftermarket gauges and and an aftermarket radio.

the other thing i considered was using a 70-72 gto dash and making my own custom insert out of fiberglass to house the gauges and radio.

Have you heard of Just Dashes?
they can restore your dash pad to better than new.
A friend had one done in a medium blue for his 69 GTO and it looks fantastic.

I sold a perfect black dash from a 1969 Lemans a couple years ago after saving it for about 5 years. Got $300 for it plus some parts. Last I heard the guy slipped in his garage while carrying it and dropped it and cracked it.

If you do decide to go with the 70-72 Chevelle round gauge dash, you should look for a 70-72 Monte Carlo as donor. And get everything. I mean everything.......

I honestly think you could transplant any 69-72 (you wouldn't want the 68 versions as the ign key is in the dash face, not on the column) dash assembly from any GM A-body car you want. I believe you could seperate the metal right at the cowl. (spot welds).
