This might be a dumb question, but i'll ask it anyway. When dealing with race-type spark plugs with the cut-back electrode, how do you set plug gap?

If your talking about the Autolite AR plugs we just look them over and make sure they look the same and put them in as they are imposible to gap with out damaging the electrod.

Yeah, those are the plugs I'm talking about. So there is no need to try to set the gap? Just take them out of the box, and if all 8 look the same, they are good to go? Are they really any better than a regular plug?

I use a wire gauge to set the AR plugs. Not to tuff

With my old motor, I saw no improvement using race plugs vs. regular ac delco plugs.

I use a wire type plug gapper and slip it between the electrode and the ground strap on and angle, kinda on the corner of the electrode. I gap mine at .035" which is basically where the come pre-gapped at. I'm really just making sure none of the ground straps got bent tighter during shipping or when someone handled the package.

Are they really any better than a regular plug? On a Vortec 906 casting circle track engine we saw 11 horse from the Autolite 103 to the AR 473 and this was done on two engines we built and saw the same results and we have customers break the electrods trying to gap them with a wire gage as long as they all look the same put them in as they are pregapped from the factory.
