Im looking into getting the 5.7 3/8 capscrew rods for my 406. But, for about $30 more I can get the 7/16 capscrew rods. Is there any cleanancing issues with these vs. the 3/8 rod bolts?

Both rods have a lot more clearance than the nut & bolt type.
I have a 406 in the shop right now that has a standard base circle hyd roller with the Scat 3/8th's capscrew rods & they clear with minimal grinding.
the 7/16th ones are a lot nicer, the beams are finished & the reciprocating weight is less then the 3/8th ones,
Really nice rod for the money.

If you email me I have pretty good pricing on Scat.
Also, I have a couple of pics of the one of the 7/16th's bolt rods I can send you ;)

I sent you a pm, wolfplace. The 7/16 are lighter? I thought they were the same rod with different bolts? How much weight difference?

BTW, everytime I make a new post, it double posts for some reason, I never have this trouble except on this message board, redface.gif sorry tongue.gif

The total weight is more on the 7/16th, only the reciprocating or upper end weight is a little less.
They are two completly different rods.

I have a set of the Scat 7/16" cap screw rods. They are pretty nice. I took them to the machine shop to be checked for size and what not. They were right on.

I thought the capscrew 3/8 rods would clear the cam without any grinding. Am I wrong? Is it the same rod as the 3/8 regular ARP bolt, just with capscrews or is a different rod altogether? Thanks

It may or may not clear the cam, it depends on the lobe & base circle size.
It is a different rod than the nut & bolt rod & has more clearance but may still need some grinding at the top corner where the capscrew comes through.
It's best to just grind them before balancing then you don't need to worry about it.

YOU STILL NEED TO CHECK CLEARANCE,,, YOU STILL NEED TO CHECK CLEARANCE,,,,, :D

Just because any manufacturer says or advertises, "no problem, it bolts right on" it is in your best interest to check everything ;)
