I have a 72 chevelle Malibu, previous owner replaced engine compartment wiring harness. Underneath the car a orange wire was hanging down with a female spade connector with rubber boot covering. It looks like the same type of connector as the oil pressure switch connector. I was assuming it went to the transmission somewhere, however there is already a plug connected on the pass. side it looked like a brown/black wire ??
So my question is, does anyone know where this orange wire might go??
Also, my car cannot be started in neutral only park, I don't know if this is related at all or not ?? any help is appreciated.

The orange wire is the power lead for the heater blower which is located near the passenger fender at the firewall.

In addition, the orange wire is not connected on factory A/C cars because there is another in the A/C wiring harness.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the starter.
Sounds like the neutral safety switch needs to be adjusted or replaced.

My 68 Elky has a orange wire that comes through the firewall by itself (not part of any harness) that comes from the kick down switch for the Turbo 400 tranny. This goes to a connector on the drivers side of the tranny.
