Hey. Just recently bought the Chevelle and my first undertaking will be the tachometer. I works, but it needs adjusting. I was cruising at 65 with 300 rpms haha...I wish. Anyway the tach wouldnt go over 1500. Any ideas as to where to start?

aftermarket, or stock? If it is aftermarket there may be a setting for different cylinder numbers, also there maybe a grounding issue....

It is stock. I can take pictures tomorow if that will help. When I start the car the tach moves it just doesnt go past 1500 or so.

Alright well I went and looked around and am very unfamiliar with wiring. Can anyone give me an idea as to where to start checking for the problem? I think something is just not hooking up right but I dont know where to look. Pictures or a video would be great if anyone can provide.

USUALLY a green wire is used to connect the tach to the coil/distributor. If it is an HEI distributor it is connected directly to the side of the distributor cap, and if it is a points distrbutor it will be connected to the coil post that connects to the distributor. Now if it has been changed or is not stock, you will find the wires you need in those same positions just different colors.

Ok well I got the tach working and running. However, I do not think that it is running properly. I had to plug in the brown wire next to the other wire on my ignition. Now the leftover wire is a green wire that is coming OUT of the ignition. The tach is working, it idles at 1500 but at cruising speeds of about 65 it reads well over 5000 rpm. The redline is at 5000. Anyway let me know what you think and if you need more information just let me know.
