Can I just buy a MSD 6AL and use it with my stock distributor (stock everything except an Accel super coil), or is it just a waste of money.

I believe you can.....on HEI models it basicly replaces the module so I understand.

Yes you can. I did it mainly for the rev limiter, which you definately need IMO with a manual trans. I later installed a Pertronix Ignitor (original 1181 model) in the stock dist and it made a sweet setup. I used a stock coil. I hid the MSD box behind the battery and everything looks stock. BE SURE to not connect the condenser that's mounted on a factory coil if using an MSD. I found out the hard way they're not compatible.

thats the only way to run a HEI is with msd no other parts are needed there included with the 6a or 6al. some advice i mount all boxes in the car along with the coil right behind the heater core under the dashboard they look superclean not seeing them under the hood plus it keeps them from engine heat and doesnt let them get weathered. my 2 cents
