I spent some time researching the archives on this site (and came up empty) but what are you guys' experiences with different belt setups on your BBs. I wanted serpentine but I can't seem to find a stock type setup. Just the shiny, billet or polished units that are way overpriced for my budget. I'll be running power steering and A/C so it adds to the cost. Can I run a deep grove v-belt without slippage?? Whats my best route here for a street geared car 427/400TH combo?? Thanks.

If you've got a long waterpump setup then a friend of mine got all the serpentine stuff off a late model pickup on his BB. Don't have any specifics though... sorry.

I haven't bought the waterpump yet because on the late model serpentine setups the water pump is supposedly reverse flow.....will it all bolt up if I hit a junkyard? I'm trying to keep the belt setup budget practical.

I could be incorrect but reverse-flow cooling applies only to LT and LS series engines. (lt1,lt5.ls1,ls6). Once again, i could be wrong

Well, I know for a fact you're right about the late gen small blocks but, like you, I'm not sure about the Big Blocks. Their just doesn't seem to be a wealth of info about this subject and I've done a few searches. Best I've come up with is a guy who modified a 3rd gen F-Body setup with spacers and custom plates but I was looking for an easier solution although I'm not above duplicating his efforts....
Anybody tackle this issue...seems to be alot of BBs here...... ;)
Thanks.

I went half and half.

I use a serpentine for my Alternator and water pump. Then I have a deep groove V for my power steering. I got the serpentine pullies from a late 80s GMC pickup with a 350cid motor in it.

I spent about two hours at the Auto parts stores finding belts. But now that I have the numbers, I'm good to go.

Hardest part was finding a power steering pully that didn't wobble and through belts at 6k RPM! graemlins/sad.gif

Hey Mike...that's a different idea. Hmmm. I'll bet it works great. Do you have any pics? I tried clicking on your website and it said "Forbidden"...ooops! graemlins/beers.gif

I should have been more specific, my friend did the same thing with the serpentine setup for the waterpump and alt. but kept the deep groove for power steering. I think he's very happy with the setup.

An easy way to tell if you need a reverse water pump is by checking the pulley. If the pulley runs on the back of the belt, smooth pulley, then you need a reverse rotation pump.

FYI, you can run a stock Gates belt setup to 7400 rpm and over 20,000 miles, fwiw.

Haven't checked my home email for a few days, It's nothing more than a stock smallish sbc balancer pulley, Z28 alt pulley and stock water pump pulley which I took some time to align properly.( some small shims under the water pump pulley and careful spacing of the alternator - jsut so everything is in visual alignment. Lower pulley is slightly tweaked, and it still runs fine.)

I see that you have some accessories that might make my reply academic.
