How the heck did you drop that thing in there with the headers on it?

OK, what is the ETA for the first blast down the 1/4?

it looks like with the grill and the nose off, he would have the clearance to get the right angle to slide it in with headers. Man, when I saw the engine quickly I thought it was mine being that mine looks exactly the same and ready to go in. Great looking piece graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif

thanks for the compliments :D

actually, we got close with the headers, and decided to take them off to make things easy.

However it was still a little tricky with the distributor in. Even though i have to pull it back out to spin up the oil pump, i decided i wanted to leave it in for "effect" :D

Jim
There are alot of little things to work out, including buying a cowl hood, as the flat one isnt going to work, although i might just remove the carb spacer and see how close it is.
Depending on how many things i can barrow, i might be ready by the end of the month, althought it might not be exactly how i want it, i dont want to miss too many points days.

I'm in the process of building a round tube trans crossmember to clear up some clearance problems. And a driveshaft loop too.

After that, going to build an exhaust system.

Stay Tuned :D

The spring rate on those 6314's seems pretty stout. At a front weight of 2,060lbs I found a spring rate of 260lbs/in worked best on my ride and I would think a SBC Camaro would have an even lower front weight (better bias). BTW, nice looking car.

Looks fantastic, great job. I'm swapping a BBC into my 69 Camaro in the next month or two. Your pics have got me pumped to get it done!

Motor Martyr
May 5th, 04, 6:27 PM
Ken,
I agree, but they were the lightest springs i could find for the application.

The front end sits up high too, but until i put some mileage on it, and get ALL of the weight on it, i dont plan to do anything to them.

If they dont work out, i'll probably have Landrum build a set.

BTW, the front end is wayyy up in the pictures becuase its on stands :D from that angle it doesnt appear to be.

Thanks guys,
Yes, it was very nice to start with a car that wasnt rotted out. I had to do nothing to the floor pans at all, except wipe the grease off them. I may spray another coat of paint on them, why not.

I did have to replace one inner fender, and battery tray, along with cleaning/stripping and painting all the front end peices except the outer fenders/variances.

When i did the rear half of the car up (couple weeks before i started this project), i did have to weld in new sheetmetal in a few spots in the trunk, nothing terrible though.

here's some updates as i continously tackle the small projects that will get me closer to firing this baby up!

http://www.hobbystage.net/camaro/camaroracer/1084679600-003669.jpg

i built this crossmember to improve the exhuast clearance problem i was having with the headers, rather then chop them up.

saved 6 lbs there, the stock one weighed 11lbs

http://www.hobbystage.net/camaro/camaroracer/1084678488-003665.jpg

here's how she looks, please note the trans cooler is only hanging by those straps temporarily. I'm used that to get the height right, so i could make up the lines...since i dont have a radiator in there yet.

http://www.hobbystage.net/camaro/camaroracer/1084678890-003668.jpg

you can see the lines in this picture, the ones coming from the trans are stainless hard line, i bent it up with a bender that i barrowed from someone who bends stainless lines all day!

the braided lines are Aeroquip with a teflon liner. they were surprisingly easy to put together.

Brian,

Nice job as always.......I love the trans crossmember. I'm doing the same too....all those little things count!!

Only question I have is the trans cooler.....I had heard it was wiser to run it through the rad and then the cooler. I was told it stabilizes the temp so the trans doesn't run too cold as that's not good either.

I'm thinking about running a trans temp guage for a while so I can make sure I have enough cooling capacity!!

Tony,
My trans guy wanted me to run the external cooler only. Also, Ed has just the external cooler.
Infact steve (STR) wants me to put an air gap between the radiator and the cooler.

Rumblin70SS
May 16th, 04, 8:20 PM
Brian,

Thats cool, it's just what I was told and it seemed to make sense. Might be more for a street car when it's really cold out......

Is Steve your trans guy? Ed was telling me about someone a while ago and I think his name was Steve. I'll need to have the 400 built shortly and get a converter too.

Motor Martyr
May 16th, 04, 9:46 PM
yeah, Steve is the man. STR, if you need his number email me.
Have steve build the TH-400, and have ATI build the converter.

nice!

hoping for the end of the month, i still need to build an exhaust system, driveshaft loop, buy a radiator/shroud, get my hood to fit by ethier milling the spacer, or buying a new one.
