: how much did your race springs settle
Motor Martyr Apr 26th, 04, 11:19 AM this question goes out to those using lightweight springs in a street/strip setup.
I'm using Mood #6314 springs
16.44
.free height
.601
..wire dia.
289 lbs/in
..rate
1744
..total load
i still have alot to put on the car, so i'm not very worried about it, but i'm wondering how much these light springs typically settle.
Loaded my front end should be about 1650
Bob West Apr 26th, 04, 9:58 PM Mine havent settled yet...Mine are rated at 290lbs/in.,17 inches installed height...can't remember the rest. Not the ones Ed recommended cuz they are discontinued. I've been to the track twice and several miles around town and havent settle any at all as yet. They didnt help 60ft times either, but the front end sure comes up if I go way up on the converter.
Motor Martyr Apr 26th, 04, 10:52 PM oh no!
this thing is way up in the air, but i'll have to wait until i get thew thing race ready and put some mileage on these springs before making a decision to cut them.
70ss496 Apr 27th, 04, 1:19 AM Hey Robert, do you have any pics of your car with these springs installed. I've just got the stock springs(factory 396 car) that have never been changed and love the way it sets. However, if I could get more front end travel with another set and not change the way the car sets I'd like to know. Thanks a lot, see ya in springfield maybe next year!

Doug F. Apr 27th, 04, 7:42 AM My CE springs have settled to the point that they are coming out as the car sits too low in my Nova. I never cut them and it never sat too high. I don't know the rate or remember the PN.
I'd wait a bit Brian.
Bob West Apr 27th, 04, 7:45 AM Let me know if the pics came thru...they are at a distance, it had a pretty good rake to it before the new springs, now it sits closer to level, raised the front about 1.5"
70ss496 Apr 27th, 04, 10:36 AM Thanks Robert, they pics came through just fine, NICE Car! Mine sits about like yours does right now, and since I'm going to be running the same size tire when I order them next week, their may not be much good in changing them. Thanks for the info, sorry for kind of highjacking this thread Brian.

Motor Martyr Apr 27th, 04, 12:13 PM no problem, i wont cut them for at least a month afterwards, i'm just a little concerned.
Eric68 Apr 27th, 04, 1:43 PM If you cut them go a little at a time. I cut a full coil off my springs and it dropped the front end 2.5". That turned out to be about 1/2" more than I expected. Not sure what brand mine are, but they are 3 year old stock 6 cylinder springs for a 67/68.
Motor Martyr Apr 27th, 04, 5:49 PM thanks! these are 6 cylinder springs, actually the lightest/tallest i could find for the application.
I think i might have a problem in that i put the side of the spring with the 3 notches up. How did you install yours?
